:(I can get close-ups if needed but can’t leave mass at this time. These pics are mostly for Ps2fixer but others may be curious too.
The green key switch wire heads toward rear of bike- brown/white wire heads toward front.

Wow, an 87 harness that's not hacked up. NONE of them on ebay are close to this layout lol. Seems a lot have the ignition switch wiring hacked up. From what I could see it looked like there was a lead coming off the harness longer than the inch or so, but yea looks like the two harnesses are close enough I could use the same template, just add the switch wiring and use the right connectors for the year.

Also this is proof the 87 harness does NOT fit the 86 machine, or the other way around (ignoring the ignition switch difference). The two wires green and I assume white/yellow has different connectors, so I suspect that's for the voltage regulator. Electrically, they appear the same discounting the connector differences.

I think you have everything covered that I needed to validate. I was thinking it had a wire lead, so getting a good measurement on that is hard over the net.

For the CDI end of the harnesses, does either layout work for both machines? I see there's a minor difference on how the CDI and Coil wires are covered. I suspect the 86 would be the universal design that would work on both, but the 87 layout looks a bit easier to actually copy and uses less tubing.

Also fun FYI, the Brown/White wire should really be Black/White. It's probably discolored from age (they tend to yellow over time and with exposure to oils/gas).

Anyway, thanks for the photos, I'll save it in my research folder so I'll have them for reference.

Yup you are correct;) my eyes suck (age I guess) there black and white (the wires).
The cdi layout does work w/both machines- I have another 87 harness that’s in my sons 86 for a key(dash) w/87 regulator (plugs different) but he has a 86 cdi. Couple more pics-257405 257406 257407
Cdi mounts in the same location 86/87

Yea figured Honda just redesigned it for cheaper production costs. The part number for the actual CDI is the same, so I know the pinout matches.

I mainly corrected the color error just encase someone from google found this. It's not uncommon to get colors mixed up, I get it all the time, like stator wires being brown when they are actually yellow or white lol.

I'll have a make a thread on why I've been gone for a while, just not super sure where to post it, probably this section so it's found easily and such. Hopefully I can recover from the drive failure and get back to making harnesses. More info in the other thread.

NOICE!!!!

Have you figured out how to tell the OEM HONDA TEC switches from the 59$ fake a roonies??

They are SOOOOOO similar it's CRAZY!! But I got that puppy figured out, no more ripping people off, farkers...

I'll wait and see what others say

Just would have to have someone buy one and compare OEM with the fakes, prob easiest thing is to look at the terminals/connectors, high quality ones are thicker brass. Silver vs Yellow color of the terminal would say if it's tin plated or not, not sure what OEM is off hand, but 99% sure the fakes would never use tin plated cuz it costs more. I almost always use tin plated, helps reduce corrossion issues.

I do mod legit REAL TEC switches for applications, but my listing clearly states it's a Honda source part that I modify to function for x application. I'm only aware of a couple models that have the right kill switch function, and they happen to have electric start, and no choke. I think a handle bar switch from like a 2003 450 foreman would work well on like a 250es/250sx, but kill switch operation being backwards makes me not want to see if anyone would want them. Too bad I couldn't buy/replace the kill switch section.
