View Full Version : Put away the cable ties and get out the soldering iron- fender repairs

So I’ve been tidying up one of my k1 atc 70’s. Repairing the fenders bu plastic welding a new piece in worked really well.

I usually use a heat gun but the plastic warps and distorts too much. I found the soldering iron much better.

I cut the piece out with a dremel.
Here’s some pics, I’m pretty happy with the result

It’s no artwork but looks nicer than zip ties and is very strong as I welded it from both sides. It’s only going on a beater trike but should do the job. I still need to sand it and polish but all will come in time.

Nice repair! The soldering iron does keep the heat concentrated better then a plastic welder. I repaired a front fender using small finish nails pressed across the crack and melted them in underneath hoping it adds even more strength to the repaired area. Hard to even notice the nails since you can add plastic to cover them.
