Hey guys merry Christmas! I was tearing down my 86 200x to have the frame painted and the upper shock bolt is seized. I heated it up and felt it turn but threads didnt move so I know it about to snap. On this model there is a threaded part welded on the frame that the bolt goes into, but I know it’s most likely seized inside the bushing. My last one the lower was seized and needed to completely bend the lower swing arm mount to punch it out. I am really trying to avoid damaging the upper mounting area. I’m wonder what the best way to go about fixing this is. Cut the threaded part myself and hope I can punch the bolt out and use a new bolt with a nut? Or drop it off at machine shop with a old junk frame that has that threaded piece on it and have them cut it and weld on new one so it’s original? I don’t weld or machine so just want opinions on how I should go about it or how you would and if there’s anything wrong with just a bolt and nut.

Get yourself some CRC Freeze Off, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, soak it days. Take your torch and heat the threaded hole, not the bolt. Then remove heat, hit with Freeze Off, and it should go. My suggestion is to defeat this bolt yourself in preparation for the many, many more you'll have to fix in your life. That's actually a very easy one. Merry Christmas!

I do have patience with things like this and have been soaking it and heating it for a week trying to work in loose, but I felt the bolt twist and weaken.. so it’s definitely going to snap just wondering what to do after, cut the threaded part and try to punch it out? Last 86 I had the lower was froze and bent some very thick steel on the swinger trying to punch bolt out because of the bushing it goes through. I will probably just cut the threaded part and just run a bolt with a nut through it

Heat the nut on frame till it’s cherry and hit it with an air gun .

Impact took it off. I was scared to hit it with it but it worked

Glad you got it out, keep those threads and that journal greased, 1X a year is all you need to do.
Something for you guys that need heat, but don't want to use a torch and melt a ton of paint, you have an option.
I've seen them before, they are called "induction heaters" which is a fancy name for a loop of thick wire that you hold over the part and it can heat up a small area cherry red. You would still have some paint to fix (in an application like this), but it would be better than a full roaring Oxy/Acet torch...

Here's an example o an induction heat source, and how it limits the damage from heat...
