For the lighting coil, what do you guys with the auto x's do for the wiring? Working on a plug and play adapter for the 185,185s,200,200s engine to 83-85 200x harness. If I'm thinking right, the green wire is critical to be used on the 200s style engine, while the 200x grounds internally in the stator. I'm thinking a ring terminal to run to an engine case bolt would be the simplest solution.
I've only read about people using the 200s/source machine harness on the 200x frame, but that seems like a lot of headache to match components up if someone say has a 200x roller (with harness/ lights etc) and a 200s engine they want to use in it.

That's what i did. Ran green to engine case bolt.
The rest were color matched if i remember rite
83 185s into 85 200x

That's what I figured would be done. Only small issue I see with the green wire to frame ground is it removes the option for a full wave rectifier, like for running an LED headlight or a battery. Basically only one system can have the ground, AC or DC. Guessing it's not too common to run LED headlights on auto x's though. Regulator/rectifier is tied into right from the wires from the engine, so probably not a big deal really, just have to wire it a little different.
Also I saw it mentioned about the 200x headlight is kind of a problem. Stock is 60w, but the 200s series engine puts out 50w max. There are 45w bulbs that fit the 200x headlight housing, but they are kind of expensive. 35w ones are common, but you'd need atleast a voltage regulator (stock 200x harness setup has one) to stop from over powering the lights and the fact it puts out less light.
Anyway, thanks for confirming what I was thinking.

Yes stock headlight would barely glow the wires
