Toying around the idea of a 2 wheel conversion

Got a junk 200E frame thats been hacked up and rewelded in places. Thinking of cutting the back end off and turning it into a bike on the cheap. I have a bunch of 1x1 square tubing...about 1/8" thick. Probably going hardtail just because thats easiest. Would that size tubing be strong enough or way too light? Can do the welding myself. Anyone who has dont this before....any tips??

Figure I could make my own axles and jack shaft and just use pillow blocks for bearings. Have access to a machine shop, so should be able to come up with something as far as a rear hub.

I have toyed with the notion myself and resigned to just wait until i want it bad enough to buy a fat cat.



I have a 200e frame in similar sad shape. I have it as a back burner project to make a stripped down to near nothing rigid front franken build. Should be good to absorb the surplus of parts i have that wont fit my ES's

I mean, the way I look at it I have a junk frame,good engine, and bunch of good square tube sitting there collecting dust, and a welder. Pretty much all the pieces to slap one together. It would just be a fun toy to ride around on, and nice thing is it would be super narrow so I could fit down tight places. I think if I go hardtail I could build it pretty cheap and simple. Just looking for ideas and thoughts really. Open to any suggestions or thoughts, not set on doing it, just tossing around the idea.

One more question....what do people who have done these conversions run as far as drive chains go? Stock 520 o-ring chain? Seems to me that #40 or #50 industrial chain would work too, right? I can find way more sprockets for those vs the motorcycle/ATV chains.
