Hey all, question, did a search but didn't have enough detail in the single post I found.
My cylinder turned out to be bad so I have to go to a final 70mm bore (ordered a (piston kit).
Now...I need this thing up n running in 3 weeks, so can the crank seals be replaced without splitting the cases...?
Any basic details appreciated. Thanks
Also, any So Cal recommendations for getting a cylinder bored ( Quick turnaround) and what's a ballpark average price you've been paying..
Thanks

ThanksBDT is in Rancho Cucamonga. Never heard anything bad about Carlos' work on 250R jugs. I've yet to send jugs there but he's rebuilt my counterbalancer and I also buy alot of parts from them.
Prices are included in the "Services" section

You should be able to change those seals without splitting cases. El Camexican or another Tri-Z guru could confirm this

Racetech in corona did my lt80 cylinder. They charged me 120$. Had it back in less than a week. Was about two years ago, bike still runs.

Regarding changing seals without splitting the cases I would say left side for sure, but I’d need to look at a set to see if you can r&r the RH seal retainer without removing the clutch basket.
So given that your cylinder is going out for some TLC why wouldn’t you want to split the cases?
It’s like a dozen more bolts to split them vs trying to do the seals the way you’re asking about and you would be able to properly check the crank and transmission bearings. On top of that you wouldn’t have to build any special drivers to install the seals over the crankshaft, or risk getting any debris in the crankcase when to try to remove the old seals. You would also get to change the shift shaft seal while you’re in there.
I’ll look at the right hand side for you, but for me splitting the cases and doing this properly is a no brainer.

Looks like you can get to the RH seal, but you would need to remove the clutch to get at the seal retainer bolt.

Didn’t your piston just grenade like 2 days ago? There’s probably 30 pieces of crap inside your transmission right now.

Not spilt the cases, wth? How about split them and do it right along with a new rod, piston and bore?

Times like these I find the best solutions through financial risk rewards prospective. You have a rather tight time line to get a lot done in short time. If your deadest to make it happen go for it. You do it yourself your $400(est. bore/parts) shop $800-1200 crank up. Each have a time line risk to value of dollars spent to making the trip.
So what your $700-1000 deep with a week to go still scrambling to make trip?
I'd buy another Z and blow that up on the ride,,Epic beat down!
Plus : you have 2 Tri Z's for one strip down ground up rebuild. If your gonna spend it have fun with it!
