I just bought a cool head off of e-bay for my honda 1985 250r and when I went to install it I realized my stock head has a motor mount that attaches to the frame (I think its called a head stay). Well needless to say the cool head I bought does not have the mount on the head. Will it really mess things up if (cause to much vibration) I dont run the mount on the head? Any advice would be appriciated. Thanks in advance Glenn Oister

I run one on my 250r quad but it only sees about 20 minutes of action when I race. I have read that it can crack the frame on the quads but I am unsure of the trike. It would probably depend on your riding style and what you use your trike for. Trail riding and the ocassional roost probably would not hurt it. I would try it and check your frame after each ride for any problems. Make sure the rest of the motor mounts are tight.

why wouldnt they include the mount on those heads??? i think that is poor design.

Ive never used a head stay on any of my R's. Some argue that the motor does flex a little under power and it's better to let it do it. The belief is that it can get more power if the cylinder is permitted to flex. I don't know...whatever...I just know that I don't run the top motor mount and have never had a problem....ever. I now run an ESR motor with a cool head and don't use a head stay either.

You can get them either way when you buy them new, its an option.

I don't have a headstay. My frame broke on left side motor mount. I welded it up and no more problems. Been a couple of years. Not sure if thats the reason it broke. Haven't had anymore problems since.

A couple years ago I discovered that my frame was cracked through and completely separated right between the radiators. It was difficult to see and had been that way for a while. The motor(through the top mount) was the only thing holding the whole frame together. I wouldn't want to run without that stay.
