We are having a terrible time finding either oem or aftermarket intake boot. Does anyone sell one or aftermarket? Maybe something newer will work?

On ebay there is a billet intake that works--I have one on my 84 (see link). It's advertised for the FL 350 but it fits the 81-84 R's. They are very nice but a bit pricey. If you are using the stock 27mm carb the boot might also be a little big. I upgraded my carb to a 35mm TMX so it works great. Here is a picture of it installed.

You can also try Motolane.com and ask if they have one of their many parts trikes. Thats where I got my spare from.

Made one also. Very happy with the results. Was a decent learning experience. Running a stock carb on my 82.
Mine doesn't look as nice as big specht though.
