Hey guys.....Anyone have an OEM or aftermarket gas tank and tank decals that stay stuck on?? I bought a new aftermarket gas tank for my '85 Honda 250SX and also new tank decals and want to know what's the trick to keeping the decals on and not bubbling after a few months?? I haven't put gas in it yet so it's fresh and new. Kreem?? Por?? Red-Kote??

Thanks,

Roger

I had an early Clarke Tecate tank that I had to Caswell Epoxy coat due to a few holes and thin spots. I put decals on it and as far as I know, they are fine till.this day. That was 5 years ago. Without the liner they will bubble.

BKM is correct. If you're not going to line the tank, perforate the decals and they will last. I posted a thread on that years ago if you want to research it.

Even if you perforate them on a plastic tank they peel over time. I have a Clarke plastic tank and used those "wicked tough" decals. Foil backed , perforated , and have some kind of crazy glue adhesive. Lasted about 6 months. Bubbled. Metal tanks may hold better. Just gonna move mine to the scoops.

I was experimenting when I did my 250SX tank and I perforated one side more than the other. The side with more holes has lasted at least five years.

Was that a metal tank or plastic? I just don't trust the tank coatings on plastic tank seen to many of them peel over time.

I red coated my 84 tank and had zero issues up till time I sold it 3 years lator.
I recall the fella saying about a year later decals still staying on .
