I just wanted to show off my newly rebuilt 200x shock (for my son's Auto-X).

While working on my 350x rebuild, I decided to take the plunge and tackle shocks. I've got enough machines and spares that I wanted the ability to be self-reliant, including the nitrogen recharge. I'm planning on posting up the process I used in another thread (once I have time to organize the pics and write it up), but for now, here is my first ever complete shock rebuild.

- Stock valving
- Silver powder coated body and reservoir
- Powder coated OEM spring
- New shaft seals from Racetech
- New OEM pivot shaft seals
- Racetech conventional shock oil

Still searching for anybody who is able to reproduce the foil stickers that go on the reservoir (pressure warning decal and the showa logo sticker)

@ctk: Yup, Ethan will be putting some miles on it this weekend!

@Hondatcs: Probably not yet... I'm still learning, and with lots of kid commitments, finding time is rough. However, if anyone in the area just needs a shock recharged, that is pretty much a 5 minute job. :)

Wonderboy, how did you get the metal cap off the end of the reservoir? I was going to rebuild my 200X shock one time but couldn't get that cap off without damaging it so I didn't bother. There's nothing to grab onto.

You know, that is the one thing I'll say that there just isn't a "right tool for the job". I had to use my channel locks, opened up to the point where the jaws are nice and parallel as they grab the protrusion on the cap. I hold the reservoir in the vice (softly, with some curved wooden blocks) and then don't twist the channel locks, just pry and the cap comes off.

I honestly was able to do it with minimal marking up of the cap. The key is to grab the cap solid with the channel locks and don't let them slip. Slipping will do way more marring of the cap than just grabbing it.

I don't know what the 200 shock looks like but on my 350x there's 2 holes on the cap and I just hold it in my vice and tap it off with a punch and mallet. Came off real easy after 30 plus years.

Hey Shawn, I know exactly the part you're talking about. You're talking about the cap on the end of the shock itself. The cap that is difficult on the 200x is the cap on the reservoir. The 350x doesn't even have the cap, the schrader valve is exposed. On the 200x, the schrader valve is hidden behind a smooth metal cap, which is difficult to remove. That's what the channel locks advice was for...
