Have a very nice 86 125m and ever since I got it, it has been hard starting. First thing I did was rebuild the carb and it started like a charm. Couple days later it would not start unless I used starting fluid. I got a carb on eBay and slapped on it and it started like a charm again. Two days later, well you get the story. What could be the issue? Where should I start?

Sounds like carb adjustments. Is it smoking or fouling plugs at all and how is the compression? If not burning oil and compression is good I would say you need to adjust carb or jetting size on your pilot.

What would cause it to start great when the carb is put on and then start doing that? That doesn't make sense...

what does the inside of the tank look like? Is there rust?

Nope its clean. Carb is always clean when I pull it too.

Clean carb, check petcock filter and check valve adjustments. Mine had a hard starting issue and when I checked the valves the intake valve was too tight. Worth a shot and its free

I'm still trying to figure out why it will start easily after the carb clean or new carb then it won't. I don't think the valves would be doing that. I will give them a peak but I may add an inline filter on the fuel line to see what that does.

Only other thing I've had happen is the fuel cap not venting and pulling a vacuum after running for a bit. Thats the only other think of.
