I bought a set of All Balls steering stem bearings for my SX, because replacing all the pieces from Honda was so expensive, and I figured I was getting an upgrade. Well, the devil's in the details. There's a note in the package that says you may or may not have to use the washers depending on your application. That's fine, but I can't figure out how you would know until the bearing is already pressed in place. Then it's too late! Anyone used this kit, and did you use the bottom washer?

Stack up all the old crap and measure it.
Stack up the new crap and measure that.
If it's shorter, use the washer UNDER the seal, then place the seal on and press on the bottom race.
You may not be able to grab all the threads or too much. They are generic for so many models....

I wish I could, but I wasn't very careful with the old races when removing them. The old bottom races are pretty bent up.

FOLLOW UP: Got 'er done! I actually found a way to measure the new bearings before putting them together. I put the bearings and seal in the bottom of the tube and measured the gap, which was negligible. Then measured the height of the collar at the bottom of the pipe on the forks to make sure I would have enough clearance that it won't rub. The final outcome is that you don't use any washers at all with the All Balls setup. Works perfectly!

Good deal!! I'm tired of the "no instructions" B.S. - Too many people get burned and have to buy a 2nd kit!!
