Well guys its been a while since I've last posted. I recently came into possession of a 1st gen R mugen 360 engine. My plan is to build another 84 R with the mugen as the power plant over the next couple months or so. I received the Mugen top end along with another hondaline 300 kit but the bottom end is still in Transit from Canada so don't have much to go on as far as pics and such of the case modifications / crank mods. Now I know someone out there had 40 mugen 360 pistons made threw weisco a couple years back I would like to get in touch with him and take a couple pistons off his hands to have for safe keeping. also need to do something about gaskets...
anyways I'm new to the mugen Kits so ill post up some pics and let me know what you guys think as far as condition and if you guys think I can run it with out re plating it or if it will need to go in for a re plate. I have a piston but would like at the least to run a new ring set. so would need to source a set...

To me that plating looks great. Check to see if its peeling or flaking if not I think your good to go.Not a lot of members with a 360r. I don't have one yet but I have researched them a lot.You will need a head stay bracket and bolt. Bottom cylinder gasket is same as 250r just trim it on the inside. For head gasket contact Vesrah or one of the gasket companys ask if they can cut you some .When you get rings make sure they can be used in a chrome lined cylinder.

Darryl were the head stays just used on the 78/79 cr250's? I don't think the trikes needed the head stay mounts? I could be wrong but I was under that thought process

The first gens also had a head stay.I remember seeing one on stroberts 360r.Not sure how you would do a head stay on a second gen R.

I really would like to have this engine in a second gen.... looking like ill have to fab something up for a head stay.

Pic of Shannons 360r headstay. Looks like a couple pieces of flat bar I know they bolt to the rear gas tank bolts. The 242774

shouldn't be too hard to fab something from the looks of Shannon's

think a 39mm pwk carb would be a good fit on the 360?

It certainly wouldn't be difficult to make a head stay if you want it, but I've seen a lot of trikes without them that are fine. I don't have one on my 480R.

I believe the person with all the Pistons was "88 Turbo Coupe"

think a 39mm pwk carb would be a good fit on the 360?

The size depends a bit on what type of riding you will be doing, but in general, if it were me, I would save myself around $130.00 and buy a Mikuni VM36 or VM38 instead.
