350x clutch removal

I'm sure it's been covered in depth, but I can't find it.
Need to remove clutch for top end removal, but I can get it off, tried making a putty knife into a holding tool and the knife shattered, tried put it in gear and just spun, so I put two springs back on a tightened as much as I could, and it still spun, only tighter. Surely someone has something better?

There's the old penny in the primary gear trick. Just be careful and use common sense.

Can you shed some more light on that? I'm finding tons of threads on 350x clutch replacement, but no details or pictures. I guess everybody is suposed to just know everything when they read those threads. Like modifying a socket? how are you modifying it?
I'm going to guess you shove the penny in the main clutch gear and the gear to the right of it?
Reverse threads on the nut correct? i don't recall the manual specifying.

You got it as far as where to place the penny! I don't know if that is right or left hand thread.

That center nut needs an impact gun or a tool made from the metal plates which is a very simple tool.

I believe John is suggesting a "penny" which is something just about everyone uses to hold the primary gear (or any gear for that matter), to loosen off, or torque on.

Or did you mean common "cents"? ;) Remember that pennies aren't made of soft copper anymore. Best dig under the sofa cushions for one that is 1981 or older to be safe.

Thanks guys, got it off, now can anyone tell me how to get the cam chain off from the bottom? Motors locked so I can't get it from the top like usual, got everything off, just can't seem to get enough slack in it

If you have the cam gear loose, and remove the tensioner, you should have enough slack to get the chain off.

Got it loose, pulled the head to a not so pretty sight...
