hey guys, having some issues with my 86 Z.
cut the story short, throttle wide open at top end, the bike desides it wants to stop sparking. ive put a a new ignition coils on from the stator, we wired the loom, changed coil, ht and plug, the only thing i havent done is cdi. ive have no access to another to try and i dont want to buy an old second hand one so im looking for new. but im assumeing they need to be set to my bike???
question being is there a bolt on full stator kit from another bike that will fit?

There's a thread that shows all the parts that interchange with the tri z but I don't remember anything that has the same stator

There is no bolt on replacement from any other bikes that I know of.

someone must have had to buy a new cdi for a tri z at some point.ive found one from electrex that states "universal" but cdi's are designed for specific bikes if im not mistaken. a nice mappable cdi would be nice to find and ill map the curve myselve on the dyno but again, trying to find one of those is becoming near impossible

You shouldn't need another stator as long as the CDI design is the same (ac vs dc, voltage range might be a thing too). The advancement curve is based on per machine, but internally its a capacitor from memory that's resized for the desired effect.

The service manual I have actually shows the advancement curve, never seen this info in a Honda service manual, so it stuck out to me. Not sure if you'll need to find another 2 stroke cdi or if 4 stroke has a similar advancement curve.

If you find a modern cdi that works, you'll likely have to rewire your main harness for the 4+2 style cdi plugs if your machine didn't come with them (seems they started around 85-86 era on Honda's). The wire diagram shows that the CDI does get regulated 12v power, pretty sure it's AC based though (no rectifier). I don't know the Yamaha's well enough to suggest possible sources for a "new" or upgraded CDI, only thing that comes to mind is a blaster since it's 250cc and 2 stroke.

Yea those are from the same service manual that I have. First pic is page 114 of it. Been collecting service manuals because of my wire harness reproduction stuffs.
