I'm working on a kit for adding ignition switches to these 3 models of 3 wheelers (ones that didn't have them factory), but the hang up is a way to mount the switch. Anyone know of any newer machines that have the same width to mount the handle bars and has a dash for an ignition switch. I'd prefer one with no neutral/reverse/temp/oil lights, but still would like to know about them.

I'm thinking the 250r is the same width as the 200x and 350x, but I haven't validated. I don't have a 85+ so if someone could measure the width that would be great.

Based on my quest so far this is what I've found:

87 200x - works well, but hard to find and out of production... I've contacted jeswinehart to see if he has a mold.
85 TRX200sx - had a guy planning to use it on one kit I sold, haven't heard back but might work, again out of production, hard to find.

Doesn't fit:

98 - TRX450S/ES too narrow doesn't fit, anyone need a complete new dash for this machine? It's probably getting ebay'ed to get my investment out of it ($50).
84 200es - too narrow, same width as the trx450s/es
250sx/es - ignition switch is the larger style, didn't check mounting width, but the only source for the switches is Honda which makes the kit kind of expensive

Thanks for any input on this. I've sold a couple kits already, and it seems to be a fairly high demand add-on, so making it easier for the end user/consumer is my end goal with this.

If you're interested in a kit, watch my ebay listing for when it's stocked. The link shouldn't change as it's a good till canceled listing.

Flossy made a run of these. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards it fitting the 125 Hondas. I bought one just to have in my personnel show case.
I don't recall cnsidering doing a dash board of any kind ?
Wee bit busy with current stuff we make, Tecate flywheels + a complete garage over haul (much needed ).

I had a similar problem. Here's what I cameup with. Also a 400ex dash won't work either, I tried.

Yea pretty much looking for any way to mount it. Trying to make the kits more available to more people instead of just those with a stash of 87 200x dashes lol. Matt's would work well, I'll shoot ya a PM.

It'd be cool to have one if you ever made one for a 84 250r. Looking forward to seeing how these turn out. I seen this on your build and they look great.

To keep costs down and keep things simple try searching for Chinese quad ones.

I don't have a build thread, but I do buy bulk Chinese OEM ignition switches, modify them with Japanese supplied connectors, and high end wire (china wire is JUNK!) and test each one for correct function, then resell them for the Honda applications which are OEM color matched and connector matched. I cover most 3 wheeler ignition switches that are out of production. Not trying to go for a sales pitch or anything, just stating what I'm doing.

I do plan to cover all years of 250r including the 86 trx250r, same issue with them, the supply for dashes are pretty dead in the water, just the used 87 200x ones around. Personally I'm not sure if the 200x ones fits the 250r's, but I suspect the 87-89 trx250r should fit atleast the 86 trx250r. I couldn't find any good photos of the dash on one to guess the mounting bolt width.

For some reason, most people on ebay have been buying a new harness with the ignition switch kits, but it isn't needed. If you just need the ignition switch and adapter to your OEM harness, shoot me a pm and I'll look up how much it will be and try to give a good estimate on how long it will take for me to get a set ready.
