Let's see your green (and red). There has been quite a bit of T3 talk lately, so let's see these babies. I'll start it off.

I'm still collecting parts to build mine. Here's what it looks like now:

This is the only runner I have now (it's not in the collection below).
This pictures are from Imperial Invasion 2017. Dan (friend of Barton clan) took the pictures.
I rode it hard all week with only casualties being a couple of fouled plugs and a blown out Banshee shocks.
240298

240299

I have a project 84 in the yard but needs work and I've gotten lazy.
It's actually red. Covered in green paint that started bubbling off the tank on the way home but it ran.
240306

This red one was great. I still miss it. DG pipe and +2 arm.
240300

240301

This is the first runner I bought.
Bought in Corona CA on the way back to Austin from Sacramento.
It still pops up on TX or OK Craigslist now and then.
Would not mind having it back except it tried to rip the foot off a friend of mine.
Only one with OEM plastics
240302

Another green one:
240303

The peak of my sickness. All four have moved on.
The picture is misleading. One is just a roller and the parts are scattered to the wind now.

I'm still trying to locate an 86 or 87 tecate roller. The only tecate on the Georgia Craigslist is an 85 and the retard wants $5500 for it(it's been on Craigslist for over a year).

Nice. How do you like those Duro tires? I've been thinking about getting a set but I'm worried they are a little too "flat track" for where I ride.

Mine is the white tecate. It's a mix of 84 and 85 parts. The green tecate was one that I gave to my brother and we got it running with spare parts.240315

i only have about an hour on them but so far I love them. Forward traction is awesome and they slide perfect. I plan on getting a set for my R as well!

Over the years I managed to collect one for each year, an 84, 85, 86, and 87. This past summer I torn down my 86 and powder coated the frame. My 84 is un-restored but still in great condition. My 85 is my most recent acquisition and completely stock. I'll try to find a picture of my 87.

Yah it is, but it's also $3300 over priced or roughly a 150% over value. For that reason alone I expect the guy will get tired babysitting a listing or he will drop the price in 2 years time. That is to say unless some sucker comes along.

I believe this is the 85 I mentioned above as popping up on CL once in a while - there is a small tie-wrap stitch on the right rear fender - link (https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/5950224947.html)

I found a picture of my 87. It was my first Tecate when I started collecting back in the early 2000s. Back then I got it for $1300--couldn't get it for that today. I've restored it but it was in pretty good condition when I got it. Everyone was buying 450 sport quads at the time and nobody cared about old 3-wheelers.

2 I bought out of Miami a couple years ago. One was an 87, I sold that to mik6 and he did a great job getting it going again

Lastly, my 450. It's not a tecate, but if it wasn't for my love of tecates it wouldn't exist

So knowing nothing about these bikes, how uncommon would you say they are in the wild? I know I've never seen one in person, junk or otherwise. Any idea on the production numbers? Would a NOS build be next to impossible? Would me staying off of a NOS build be impossible? How is the aftermarket for these? How much should i expect to pay for a roller? Or a complete non runner?

NOS in my mind is nearly impossible, but a full OEM build is manageable with VERY deep pockets. The second gen seem to be much more rare (and desirable) than the first gen, although when it comes time to race, I'd pick first gen hands down.
Aftermarket parts are also hard to find as well.
I once heard someone say there were 1000 Rs for every T3, but I've never tried to validate that claim; I'd be willing to bet it's not too far off though.

I love my 3rd gen Rs too. I kinda hate to admit it, but I'm pretty sure my 85r is the fastest one in the fleet.

I agree.
My 85 Tecate reminds me just how good my 85R really is. Jumping off one to ride other is amazing.

Although, recently, the T3 has been my favorite to ride.
It sounds great (DG silencer) and has a hooligan feel the refined R does not have.

And I'm usually on the only T3 in a crowd.

Regarding your question about Tecate production numbers, here is a thread that discusses it. There should have been a lot more--damn lawyers.

What's your reasoning for that chief? I've spent a bit of saddle time on an 87 t3, but never ridden a first gen tecate. I've got an 85 in the shed that's about to undergo a resto, I'm hoping I like it as much as my 87.

The cockpit seems so much slimmer and less bulky. When hanging off in a turn it has a more narrow between-the-knees feel (insert "that's what she said" joke here), and the rear fender isn't up your tookus quite as much. It really seems to have a simplistic/bare-bones feel with a more raw power curve.
I still think the second gen T3 is the best looking bike ever made, but compared to the first gen, it feels kinda high and bulky.

I agree. Comparing the 1st and 2nd generation Tecates I would say the following. The 1st generation has a larger, more open rider compartment, whereas the 2nd generation feels cramped. The foot peg to seat distance is too short, but I'm 6'1" so that may explain it. The engine on the 1st generation has a more raw, light-switch type power band, whereas the 2nd generation has a more even spread of power, thanks to the power valve. The suspension on the 1st generation is not near as good as the 2nd, especially the front. The 2nd generation has more precise steering, probably due to the more narrow tire. Finally, the 2nd generation is definitely the looker of the two, although a 1st generation MX'er can look sweet.

So tore down. The tecate again this year, this time I didn't skip out on anything. New Lonestar axle, hoosier tried tracs, powder coated frame and swing arm, all hardware zinc plated, Fully rebuilt /new brakes front and rear every bearing on the machine and full top and bottom end complete overhaul. so far just have the motor left to do250846
