Just got this from a buddy of mine that bought 2 86's as a pair. He traded me this one from that pair for a pair of Chinese kids quads that my kids have outgrown. Not too bad of a deal.

Nice pickup. Tank shrouds and headlight are going to be tough to find for a 2nd gen 200x.

They make repo shrouds and I have the headlight and bezel. Its just a bunch of little stuff that needs done like missing hardware and putting the calipers and lines back on. My buddy wants to keep the rear wheels and tires but thats fine because I have some 400ex wheels with tires to put on it.

If you buy these, let me know what you think. I have OEM shrouds on my 200x that are in great shape, no cracks, just some spider webbing from the sun and being 30 years old.

They are on the other 86x that my buddy picked up. They look pretty good for being repops. I have one side for mine. As a matter of fact the front and rear fenders are maier. They don't look too bad but I'll probably end up buying a new set after i clean up the rest of it.

Yeah once you clean her all up, new Maier fenders will make a big difference. I run maiers on mine as well after I restored it. I have OEM original fenders, both front and rear, but they are pretty scuffed up and a faded white, just don't look as nice. I refuse to paint the OEM ones, afraid it will devalue them.

So I've bought a few parts and I still have a long list to go but at the moment I currently on a training mission in Slovakia so I have limited access to buy parts and no access to my 200x lol. All will be well though. I'll be home in just over a week and I'll continue to pick up parts.
The parts I bought before I left were a maier caliper cover, a PRM rear grab bar and a NOS master cylinder guard. I plan on picking up new brake lines and I also need new (or good used) calipers and a master cylinder because mine are really worse for the wear. At the moment I'm more focused on my KLT200C project so the 200x will continue to collect parts until I can get time to give it some love.

Picked up some more parts since my last post for my 86. I bought a white light shroud from shep1970 that looks awesome, a Coffman exhaust and a tank with no holes. I also picked up another 86 X to use for parts then put back together as an auto X with a trx200sx engine I picked up from the parts king himself captainweezy.
I've taken it down to a bare frame and have been trying to determine what color of blue I want to do the frame in and what color to do the swingarm in. I'm torn between doing it like an 87 and doing it the same as the frame or doing white, silver or gold. The last 2 pictures are a loose idea of what I'm going for. I dont want an exact copy though but I do like the all blue and white and my goal is to eliminate all of the red from my X other than the taillight lol and the wording on the caliper guard.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/556c18630ad5856b7150a0a837ecea52.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/e16890b1fc32ff0ee3b7b1bd580ade35.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/175de1a863500f44338679a5b679a71f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/4388b018c837b796f4a265ef65536414.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/2db766a12d35b0d09c525d0d4a641b2b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181029/2ec67a9ff10036849455546e92e10c93.jpg

So the postman dropped this little bit of shininess today. I took a quick second to test fit my billet tapered bearing carrier that I picked up a few years back. Well I should have another round of parts coming for the 86 X project. A set of aftermarket fork air adjusters and balance hoses, lower fork stabilizer and a set of aftermarket fender mount hardware. I also found another rear caliper/disc cover in white to go along with the white front one I have. The most exciting part are the blue carbon shrouds that are going on this thing. They are so nice even my wife thought they were awesome!
Some of it like the exhaust and the stuff I have double of are going towards the 250sx project that I'm also working on.
I'm super excited to get started on this project but it's all going to have to wait until I get home next year from this deployment. Until then I'm just keeping an eye out for old school aftermarket parts to buy and later install https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190718/2a0bbffd5580267afbf5e187865615ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190718/1600088ef3fe8bf2b541e3f0452d1e7d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190718/6ee2673fa93b4eeabaf313c2a3e7d5bf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190718/e5dc40a30ea2a78cec27c7e8472abf38.jpg

That's gonna be a really nice 200xWith the amount of time and money spent on parts I hope so. I'm just trying to cover all of the details that might get missed.
I have a theme or direction I might go with that I wasn't originally intending going with it. I'm not a big fan of red so that's why I was going all white and blue but after seeing some pictures of an 87 xl600r I'm thinking about doing the paint scheme similar to one of those. I'd be doing the engine in red and plastic in white with the tank having the red stripe. I want to set this 200x apart from the rest and build it to my liking and load it with a mix of cool old school parts and some new stuff that is being made up today. Hopefully I get one of the last parts I have my eye set on to put this build right were I want it. Just waiting on paychecks to hit lol.

Is that auction still up? or did he end it?? I tried to get him to end it early for less than the opening bid but he wouldn't budge.
I could've grabbed it, but, I've already got a few, sometimes I feel like I just buy, buy, buy and buy...
You can bore your 86 gear to fit, probably need to get some thrust washers etc, but otherwise it is all similar once modded.
One problem I found is the cover. I thought I could just bore the center, and order a different oil seal. But, for some reason, Honda changed the O.D. dimension of the seal too. That meant I had to bore the thru hole AND a blind flat cut for the seal. But, it case all be worked out....
If you can't find an 87 cover, I made a jig to bore the 86 cover to fit and can help.
Loving all the great parts so far!!

I bought it. I didn't like the price but that's just part of it I suppose lol. I figured with a built engine the kicker would be a needed upgrade.
I have now have 3 engines and 3 kickers (4th should be getting shipped from the kid I bought the dual plug engine from. He forgot to put it with the engine when he packed it up).
Only part that I really want to get now is an extended swingarm to complement the extra power I'll have and width of the axle.

I’d definetly have steve or a machine shop do the outer case boring for the 87 shaft. Steve, I didn’t need to bore the outer case for the 87 “seal” itself to fit the 86 outer case. This is the seal that fits for the conversion (only boring the shaft hole)

Little update, I got the swingarm back from chrome. I also had the shock rebuilt by Ron Elmore (aka rocket ron). I roughly assembled everything to get an idea of what I'm still missing and what needs to be powder coated.
The plating was done by Shelbyville plating. The parts I used is a RAD billet carrier with tapered bearings I picked up years ago, a durablue eliminator axle, Galfer blue brake hoses, BDT blue hose clamps, a white chain slider made by Louis Mielke (plan B racing) and white delrin pivot bushings made buy Bryan Mulligan.
I'm super pumped to make some forward progress on this project. It's taken lots of $$$$ to get to this point but this helps keep the motivation up. 86 200x is a great trike.Iv been getting mine fixed up to be more reliable. I had a Hella time getting a bearing carrier. Looked for one since I got it in 2018.I bought a new from Niche wich was wrong its for 86 250r. I bought a used one that was said to be 86 200x wich was again 86 250r. So I went to ebay and way over paid over 300 with shipping from Alaska. Took forever to finally get it.
