I have plates on my trikes. Registration without a title is no prob. Never tried insuring.

What do I need to ride it besides on my own property so the cops don't mess with me? Just registering it is all i need to do?

in ny you have to have bill of sale, posess the machine at least 2 yrs(if it has never been registered),have a law enforcement officer check the vin and write it down on department letterhead, fill out 2 forms at dmv(one is afidavid that seller must sign) and pay 10 bucks the regy is for 1 year from april 1 to march 30 or 31

I registered my 350X. I didn't have to have a cop do a thing. I just took a good digital pic of my VIN number so you could see it out and took it to DMV. I had one DMV say own for one year.... but have seen a few people here say 2 years.

I did have the 'Certificate of Origin' with me though. They took it from me. BUT.... I made them make me a copy of both sides first!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you ride only on your own property, you don't need to insure or have tags. (tags might be 'mandatory... not sure). If you ride on others, you should be insured. I quoted through Travellers I think... for my 350X and my LT-4WD I think they quoted me $75 for the year. You do need both tags and proof of insurance to ride on any state lands.

I also heard on the news, that Pataki is looking at raising $$$$$ on ATV registrations.... going to raise it from $10 to $45 for one year, so go and register them soon!

first off DON'T GET CAUGHT ON STATE LANDS UNLESS IT IS POSTED FOR ATV USE!!!(legal state land is mainly around the adirondacks)

state laws says ANY vehicle has to be registered in nys, you have to have insurance if you ride it off your property your relatives property included.

ist offence with no insurance
loss of drivers license for 1 year, minimum 200 dollars fine, state civil penalty of 500 bucks, and a 50 reenstatement fee.(all this from experience,i got caught on a bike and holy chit did they get me)

i was going by what i had to do to get mine registered,i have heard of people taking a pencil rub of the vin and getting a reggy that way.

as for ins you can get state min. for around 50 bucks a year for 1 machine, full coverage cost around 115 to 175 depending on what it is.

in nyc for title/registration i had the certificate of origin and signed/notarized bill of sale. didnt have to own it for a year or two.

for pa, all you need is a tracing of the vin. dont even need a bill of sale.

insurance in ny was $500 for liability and insurance in pa is only $75 each.

my understanding is in ny everyone must register, even if you only drive on your own property. you dont need to get insurance to register like a car. but if you drive in a public area you need insurance.

in pa you dont have to register if you are on your own land. but need insurance and reggy to ride elsewhere.

i got that quote from progressive.

insurance costs more in the city. i believe your quote is for a residence outside the five boroughs, correct?
