Caught the tecate bug recently and came across this beauty in washington D.C. so me and my dad hit the road Sunday afternoon for a long 18 hour round trip from Buffalo. It needs some slight TLC to be where I want it. so far all it needs is
a new axle
new tires to replace the god awful ones on it currently
swingarm bearings
new tank
handlebars
clutch steels and fibers
grab bar
and the shocks rebuilt (luckily it has a works shock on it!)
Other than that everything else seems to be pretty fresh. The guy I purchased it off of said he went through it in the late 90s and he gave me receipts to prove it, and since he went through it he hasn't put many hours on it because of medical reasons, so it sat inside his basement since then. I still can't believe i finally own one of these things, I plan on keeping it for a rider and restoring it once I get done with my 85 r.

Here are some parts you may need:

You may want to inspect your flywheel magnets as they are prone to coming loose and causing damage. Jeswinehart fixes them and makes new intake boots, chain sliders, frame plugs, etc....
Theres a company that makes new gas tanks for the Tecate, just cant remember the name.

I actually just ordered a gas tank from Clarke today. When the previous owner did all the work to this he said he replaced the magneto as well but I'll check it anyways. Is there any aftermarket companies still producing axles for these?
Oem fenders, nice score. I'd put those up on a shelf and get some maiers for riding if they are crack free

Lonestar had made some not too long ago for a member here on 3ww. The 3WW shop used to have them in stock.
You should look up Broncobeast32 on the forums, or contact Billy at the 3ww shop. I bought one of those axles a few years ago, they were nice!

Nice Tecate. For some reason the 85's are hard to find in good condition. I looked for one for years and finally found one this past March (see pictures). Regarding the axle, I talked with Durablue a few months ago and they no longer have the tooling for the 1st generation axle. They did express interest in doing a run of 2nd generation axles but it might be a group buy situation where we have to get at least 10 people to commit and pay some money up front.

Thanks! I looked all over the states around me for awhile till I found this one. Kinda was hoping for one more in your condition but for $1500 i couldn't turn it down:

The extended axles are long gone and no one is willing to do another run. This is the hardest part to find for the Tecates.
If your ever in the Syracuse area and feel like bsing, lemme know

I thought the carriers would swap, allowing the use of an 86-87 axle? I have never had a 1st gen, but just thought that was a possibility.

I'm running a 86/87 T-3 swing arm on my 84/85 half breed Tecate and I don't recall buying any different carrier. In fact I am certain I used the innards from the first gen Tecate.
