A friend of mine has told me about a supposedly very nice 250sx(maybe a a 200sx,my buddie wan't sure and I've never seen either one myself. He just said it WASN'T a 200X but that it looks "just like your 350X") for sale for 600 dollars. What items need to be inspected in advance before purchase? I think the 250SX is shaft driven and I know nothing about the problems inherent to that drive system.I will probably get an opportunity to test ride before buying. Is 600 dollars a decent price assuming the bike is in good condition?Any informed input would be greatly appreciated. :?

I've never had a problem with the shaft system on any of my machines, although some people have. Look at the rubber boot surrounding the CV joint (near the foot shifter) and make sure it has no cracks or holes in it. Also, look on the inside of the forks where the tire is. On mine...the 22x11x8 tire was rubbing on the inside of the forks and actually wore down the steel and a tiny pin-hole developed where oil would leak. Nothing a little JB Weld wouldnt fix though.
In any case....I would snag it up for $600 if its in good mechanical condition :-P

powerkicker: the only info I might suggest is to make sure that it shifts well, there have been cases where the shifter will stick in the down position and wont return to center. The shift pin may break or the shifter arm (under the left side cover also) may bend. My '85 250sx had a loose shift pin but luckily I caught it in time. As was mentioned above also look at the rearend boot and check the ring/pinion oil. Take a friend with you and have them watch you ride the trike. They may spot things you dont (like a bent axle or exhaust smoke). If it's on good shape I'd say $600 is a bargain.
