Came across a good price on a 200x that a guy put a crf150f engine into. He says all the mounts worked out fine, could that be true? He has to take the plastics off to kick start it, how could this be fixed? Seems like it could be a fun ride but it definitely needs a little TLC. Just wondering what people thought of this, does it seem like a good idea? Does this open up more options for the 200x?

It's up to you. But i wouldn't want to lose 50CC displacement on a thumper...

At least the kicker gears should be better :)

I'd say the newer motor makes about the same power as the OE X motor. You might be able to shorten the kicker to clear the fender if not I don't see taking the seat off to start it being that big of a hinderence.

If the price is right. Go for it. Heck. Rear plastics is a quick lever. Boom.

Tires look good. How is the overall condition? Brakes work(?) Chain and sprockets? Carrier bearings? You know the drill

put 400ex rear fenders on it and you'll be able to kick backwards no problem

More room between the pegs and the front part of the fender?

also looks like you'll have to get a 350x foot brake lever so you can have rear brakes again

More room between the pegs and the front part of the fender?, ya it's a completely different shape and they will end up further back, my 480 kicks on the left side but same idea, I just weld a tab on each side of the sub frame at the top then one on the back drill holes attach fender and seat = you're all done, using the stock 200x mount set up i've done as well but more of a pain

That's not a techknowledgey advanced motor. Just like the old ones.

That's not the liquid cooled CRF150R.

Looks like a CRF 230 engine.

There's a 150f and 150r r is liquid cooled race bike. 150f is a trail bike like the 230 but the pic above looks like a 230

No it's a 150f. I'm thinking about getting it and seeing if I can sell the engine. Then I'd end up with a roller that I can make an auto x out of or just sell the roller too

If you look at pics of a 150 and 230 the valve cover on the 230 looks like a 200x that's what it looks like in your pic.

isn't the 230 electric start only?

Yes. It's definitely a 150 engine. If it was a 230 I wouldn't be as hesitant because the engine would be bigger and the kicker clearance issue goes away. He sent me a picture of the donor bike; definitely a 150. The bike was nice but the trike-it looks rough in the pictures and he has no air box, just some sort of filter on the end of the carb. The other issues are no rear brakes, swingarm bushings, plastics all destroyed. And that's all that I know of now. Plan is to look at it tonight, he wants $300 for it and says the engine runs perfect. What do you guys think? And do you think the mounts actually all lined up or did he have to skip a few?

I'd be on it like flys on trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro for that price. You can't even find 70s in my area for that price. The little work it needs is no big deal to have a decent platform to start with. The 200x in my opinion is the best bang for the buck play bike out there.

I'd give him 200$ or maybe less if it comes with the engine , I've picked up many 200x's in that kinda shape for 100$ or less

I believe you can swap the 230F Engine into the bike just as easy as the 150F. I was researching this when my 200x went to take a dump on me and never returned.
The 230F has electric start if I remember correctly.

Buy it for $300. You could sell the engine for that and then buy a 230F engine and spend the little extra time and money to make it electric start.

Well I did get it but I shouldn't have. This thing is roached. It was just used for wheelies down the street and they dragged the frame and exhaust down it. He lied about everything I asked him about. Told me the motor mounts worked perfectly...not in my world. I'll get some pics when I can but all they did was use 2 out of 3 bolts for each mount and completely skipped 2 mounts altogether. The engine did seem to run alright but the kicker hits where the footpeg mounts are and there was no filter. Should have walked and am still beating myself up about it. Now I just need to find a way to get my money back out of it. I need to sell the engine and then just scrap the rest
