Front tire went flat on son's new Atc. How do I tell if its the tire (which has very little tread left or the rim? Its the gold rim 23.5x8x11 tire. Whats a good front tire? I found this

pump the tire up, and get some soapy water and dump it all over the tire, check the tread and bead areas.

Nice site! I like the 6 ply better. What about these, which one :?: The kids mainly ride in hard dirt or soft dirt (raily snow/rain)
Thanks for the help!

Its a 2ply tire, was hoping to get a 6ply. The rear of the pictured Atc (daughters) has Kenda Klaw 6 ply, and I like them. No flates yet :-D 8) Out of the pictured tires above, which would you choose :?:

Be shure to check the valve steam also, they are made of rubber and will dry rot. Even if it is a metal valve steam it will still have a rubber gasket on the bottem. You can check it with soapy water or a spray cleaner (IE Purple Power, 409) just use whatever you spray the tire with.

Can't seems to find the gremlin. Did the soapy water trick. Argggg. I pumped the tire back up, well see how long it takes to drain again

... if its on that early R, its probably a seam leak. The rims are a two piece design with an o-ring gasket in the center. If it gets even a little bit corroded or rusty, they tend to leak from here and its usually hard to find at first. Spray the soapy water around the center of the rim, especially where the bolts hold it together.

Its the gold rim 23.5x8x11 tire.

Oh nevermind, I didn't see this (has to be a one piece rim then). Thats definitely not the stock front end on that '82R is it. Looks like a 200X rig from your pics.

you are not thinking of putting one of the tires pictured on the front of a 3 wheeler are you??? Egad..............thats horrible! go with a straight up knobby. How could you steer with such a tire on a trike?? dont do it.

The narrow front rim is from an '83 or up sport ATC. The '82 R has a regular 22x11x8 "rear" type balloon tire on the front.

... I wouldnt put that Titan 489 on there ... its way too heavy and the tread is far too aggressive for the front. As far as puncture resistance goes, I wouldnt worry too much about the front tire as opposed to the rears - that seems to be where the majority of punctures happen. I would just go with either the two ply 23.5x8x11 Kenda Front Max and slime it if you are worried or get a 3-ply 24x8x11 Carlisle Trail Hawk. These are by far two of the most popular narrow front tires on this site besides straight up knobbies - I'm sure Dunlap makes a few knobby tires as well for the 8x11" rims.

I think that Chen Shin makes a 23.5' front knobby.

I have that EXACT same tire on mine ( the Mud-devil 6 ply ) top picture on the 2 pics..

i like it on my 250sx, a bit heavy tho.. it wants to sink in mud.. but steers real well. I'm in the process of cutting the sides of the knobs so that they don't ruin my forks tho. !
