I'm having an issue getting this hooked up correctly. It was on the bike and worked fine when I disassembled it for resto and I didn't take a pic of it before it came apart.

For the sake of staying on the same page, I'll label the posts as:

The two closest to the fuse are posts A1 on the left and A2 on the right with posts B1 and B2 below. The two wires are L and R.

Here goes:
The A posts both are hot with 12.2 volts and the B posts are 7.1 volts.
Crossing the two produces 8.1 or -8.1 (A1 and B2 together or vice versa)

Now hooking up the wires:
If I hook up wire L to either of the A posts, the fuse blows.
If I hook up wire R to either of the A posts, nothing happens until I press the starter button. Whether the key is on or off, pressing the starter button causes the neutral light and headlight to come on only while holding down the button. Nothing else.

Yup. Your right. Even the wiring diagram has two different colors to trigger the solenoid, his are both black. Here is a pic of the stock solenoid which have the correct trigger wires, which should be coming from your harness.

Your diagram wire colors.

Sure, you can make it work.

But, without the right solenoid, you don't even know how many amps it can switch...
