i have an 86 250sx with 86 250r forks on it. after rebuilding the forks the front end does awesome and soaks up all the bumps on the trails. The rear is a different story, being the original shock im guessing that it is more then likely blown. On the trails it seems like the rear bottoms out pretty easily.

I am trying to stay under $100 to do this. I have read on there that the 300ex rear shock is a direct replacement and gives a better ride and can be found for a reasonable price. I wanted to get your guys' opinion on if i should just do that or if getting my stock one rebuilt and revalved would be worth it or even in the price range im looking at. Where is a good place to have it rebuilt? I mostly do some faster paced trail riding.

let me know what you think

I don't believe they can be rebuilt (and definitely not for under 100$). Get yourself a 300EX shock.

Nothing will match that 250R front suspension in the least, but you can certainly make it better...

With some massaging I fitted a 350x Shock but it was much too stiff and the geometry was a bit off. It may have been better with a different spring. Just gotta experiment a bit.

Unless you use a set of forks from the 86 "TECATE....The Most Powerful 3 Wheeler In The Universe!".

OMG...I think I just burst a hemorrhoid!

from what i have seen here it should bolt straight in on the 250es (bigred) and 250sx.

The 300EX shock will fit on the SX, but the bolt holes on the frame/swing arm of the trike are a bit smaller. I ordered 2 of these to compensate:

The 300EX shock is stiffer than the SX shock, which was good for me because I'm a bigger guy. I run a 200X front end on mine, and it compliments it nicely.

What year model of 300EX shock did you get? I have a '87 250SX that needs a better rear shock and I'm looking for the alternative to stock.

ive been told a blaster front shock will work and give it a softer ride but its a half inch shorter and ive got a 350x front end on my sx so id like a LITTLE more height

No dowels are needed when replacing the '87 SX rear shock with a '93-'00 TRX 300 rear shock. Bolts right up.
