I have seen quite a few rigs where the owner didn't do a very good job watching the wear on the small 11 tooth drive sprocket to drive shaft on the Honda ATCs. Here is what I do to fix the problem.
1. Buy a new sprocket
2. Take the old one and grind off all of the teeth, make sure to place the two sprockets together on the shaft for a trial fit and check for clearance of the chain.
3. Buy three new bolts that are another sprocket width long.
4. Put the ground down sprocket on the shaft first then the new sprocket and retainer plate. Then install the new bolts.
5. Check for fit by turning the shaft and looking for any binding. If so take the sprocket assembly off and put it back together and sand down the case side for good clearance.
This puts two sprocket widths on the shaft and better yet puts one of them on a fresh part of the shaft. Its alot better than splitting the case and replacing the shaft.
Enjoy
