Hey guys,

I have a few questions regarding my 83 185s. Ive done a lot of digging about axles for my 185s.

81/82 axles are the same, and 83 is the odd ball (same as the 200s). They both run the same ID bearing kits meaning the OD of the axles are the same.

So my questions are these-

1- Can you use a 83 sprocket hub on a 82 axle and be fine?

2- Can you use a 82 axle in a 83 carrier assuming you use the 82 sprocket and hub?

3- Does anyone have any helpful tips or tricks?

4- What are the carrier differences between the years if any? They are only separated by 1 number on service honda part number. They list 81-83 which leads me to beleive they are the same.

I would think only the sprocket hub is different. Some other input would be appreciated as well, as I currently need an axle for my '82 185s, and I figure around here the '83 axle would be more common. I may end up just taking my axle to a local guy to be straightened.

I beleive the 82 models are press fit. As the 83 have a circlip that holds them in. I would love to run a 83 hub on a 82 axle. I will keep you posted

I'll try to get you some measurements tonight if I get s chance.
I'd figure you could just press the sprocket hub off of one axle and press onto the other. I thought the only circlip was the one that held the '83 sprocket onto the sprocket hub, but it's been a while since I've been into one of them.

That is my plan. Try to run a 83 hub on a 82 axle. I'll know soon enough. There are 81/82 nasa axles on ebay. I just bought one. I'm sick of bending axles on these little guys.
Super heavy duty. Well shall see!

These help at all? Lighting in crappy in the garage, and that caliper isn't great. I can get some different/better measurements in a day or two if needed.
If you can't view the pics that way I can upload them differently

Many years my '82 185S axle got bent BAD by my teenager and a immoveable swing set pole. Twenty years later I drug it out of the shed and decided to fix it. I bought a ebay piece that the seller SAID was a '82 185s but Ray Charles could see that the sprocket hub was completely different. The first three pics are my bent axle and the last three are the axle I bought. I DO NOT know if it is a '83 or not. It's straight as an arrow but I never gave a thought to swapping the hubs and I just bought the proper one. Both axles look the same except for the hubs and I see no reason why that wouldn't work. I was surprised to see the wear on the OD using the stock rubber cushions but it wouldn't mean squat with a replacement sprocket.
