Hey everyone, I'm making progress on my 83 250r. got everything stripped down today and got the frame ready to go to the sandblaster. also, have parts coming for the engine rebuild so I should be able to atleast get the bottom end back together in the next week or so. took a couple pictures of the progress/ destruction.

Great to see the progress bud. Whats the plan for the bike? Resto or bringing the puppy back to life for a nice rider?
Keep us updated, always great to see progress.
Plus it gives some of us slackers motivation to finish our destruction 👍[emoji481]

I'm not much of a resto guy never really been my style. Plan is to make it a sweet rider. Switching up the color scheme which I'm sure will upset some of the die hard Honda guys out there. I'm excited tho should be a sweet ride when I'm done. I had a 86250r when I was younger and wish I never would have gotten rid of it

Does anyone know how many different rear suspension setups came on the 83 250r. Or by chance what should have came on it? I tore my rear suspension apart thinking no big deal I have the manual but it's totally different than what my book has. I figured it out after staring at it for awhile. Lol. But was just curious if anyone knew. Also it has 4 bolt hubs. Are those stock?

I ment to ask what color are you going with for the motor

I'm going to keep the motor black. Think it'll look best with what I have going on. I have some updates on the progress but it won't let me upload pictures for some reason

Just some updates of the progress. The one pictures is what's left of the bearing on the crank/rod end. Be getting brand new rod piston and bore.

The blue/white color scheme will look good. I haven't seen another one like it.

Thanks everyone. She's coming along good I think. Always liked the way blue and white looked together. Figured there would be some haters for getting rid of all the red on the Honda

Good news! Engine is finally assembled. New piston and rings, rod and bearings, crank bearings. Boysen reeds. Just put a fresh coat of high temp black on it. Next step is to save for a carb as it did not come with one and a new throttle. After that I hope to hear her run. Excited as I bought the trike with a locked up motor and in pretty rough shape. Pics are of the motor in paint.

What type of carb are you going to go with?

I'm not sure on carb yet. I've been checking out the 28mm KOSO. I'm on a pretty tight budget so I'll prob end up with that one. About 40$ on eBay. Do you have any input?

I'd be leery of putting a $40 ebay carb on anything that I had that much time and effort into. May work great, or it may burn up your engine before you get it dialed in.

I have a nice 85 carb i could sell you.
It seems some research would need to go into the installation.
Look into it and pm me if you want it.

It is a stock 34mm round slide carb. They are easy to find. There are lots and lots of them out there for cheap. I am sure there is a bunch of literature out there on different carbs for gen 2 R's

Ok thanks I'll have to do some research. My manual says stock carb for the 83 was a 27mm. Im sure some rejecting would be necessary but don't know if it would mount up to the carb boot. I'll keep you in mind and do some research. Thank you

Wow, what a sweet build!
I also like the colors, but IMHO the black engine paint should not be so glossy. I believe a satin black would be an improvement.
The sharp blue and white will be the focus of attention anyhow, just nit-picking.
The airfoolers website is rad, second that, definitely should occupy hours otherwise wasted sleeping :)
The site was down for a while, I was worried it would never come back...
An air cooled 250r is a versatile, and especially in your case beautiful machine. I think this unit deserves all the funds possible, you won't regret a dime.
Very nice work, be sure to share a ride report, will be watching to see how it turns out. Thanks for sharing,
Don

Well here she is all together guys. I'm so close to firing her up I can taste it!! I ordered my carb yesterday. Against what some people have said I went with the 30mm KOSO. It was the best option for me at this time and if it doesn't work I'm out 30$. Also ordered a new twist throttle and grips and cable and cone air filter. Didn't come with a airbox so going to start with the filter and eventually and hopefully find an OEM airbox for it. Final parts should be arriving Friday so wish me luck!

Great News everyone. The R is up and running! Even got to do a hot lap down the road. The KOSO carb is working great for me so far. No complaints. Do have one issue. It runs so good. It doesn't shut off. lol I have power to the switch but won't kill the engine. Also lights aren't working. Not sure if it's all the same issue. But still pumped that she's running now!
