Curious if anyone knows any tricks aside from shortening the shock itself. I know the differences in the linkages and shocks from 83-4 and have both. TIA for any info.

your preload on the shock will control about 1-2inches max. much lower then that i'd think you need adjustable linkage

Drill a hole about an inch or so forward of the stock mounting hole for top of the shock.

I have a Westcoast swingarm for the second generation R and it changes the ride height by changing the mounting position of the J shaped cushion arm. It provides two mounting points on top of the carrier. One position is standard height and the other lowers the rear. With the stock swinger you would have to do some fabrication.

I have a westcoast on this bike. I thought both holes were for the different linkage between 83/4. How much lower did it make it? Slammed like for the ice? have you ridden hard in the lowered position? what year is your second gen to know what linkage lowered your rear when you moved holes. thanks again.
