Bought a 250sx for $100 and only had it running for about a week. Originally the starter tooth took out the stator coils. The guy did not know about the ignitor coil and just replaced the starter gears i think and could not get it to run again. Fast forward and i have replaced the stator, timing chain, and the one-way bearing on the clutch side. The old one-way clutch bearing did not engage on the kick start all the time and i read somewhere that that could take out the starter. I noticed the starter still seemed noisy and a little clunky at times. I was going to take cover off but it was labor day weekend and i wanted to take it on its maiden voyage. Well, rode a day or two and they it happened. A slight clunk followed by a grinding noise.. Took starter cover off and sure enough a tooth is missing on the gear that makes contact with the starter shaft. So question is does starter clutch need replaced or why does it keep going through the starter gears? I also noticed that even when in neutral and i idle it up a bit and right before returning to idle there is a slight clunk that you can hear and feel in your feet on the pegs.

Thanks for any input. First honda for this guy

People have installed that bearing backwards. There's a one way bearing on the ignition side as well...

It shifts fine because neither of those clutches affect it, the shifter is directly linked VIA an arm that pushes on and separates the manual clutch plates.

OK here is the video I took tonight. I took the left case out and took the part of the starter gear tooth out of the stator. It did some damage but it is still running and charging. Left the 43/18 tooth starter gear out (that is missing a tooth) and have it running. Starting it with the kick start. My understanding is that it would not kickstart with the one way in backwards on the clutch side. You can hear it clunk when I rev is coming down and just about to idle in the video below

I have no idea what is going on. Any input would be great
