I'm sure most on here are tired of me talking about how I'm going to retire my bike to a display piece, but this will be it's transformation from current racing condition to what a period correct racer would have most likely looked like back in the day and how it will be displayed in my garage. And honestly, probably the last post I'll have dedicated solely to it, because I don't really see it changing any in the future.

For some of the newer members who have just joined here is a little bit of the back story on this bike. My father purchased this bike in 1989 from the original owner. It might have had 5 hours on it at the most. It served the family well as a trail bike and sand drag racer for many years. My father passed in 2007 and in his honor, I decided to try a 100 percent oem restoration, but soon realized I didn't have the coin or patience for that. So i did the next best thing, build a flat track racer. The build can be seen and read in this thread:
http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?t=133323

This is how the bike currently sits :
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/1e9373f357786b6c4bb51e170b73fd2b.jpg

The engine is a ESR Pro-x 310, with 39pwk carb, and Paul Turner Hi-Rev pipe and silencer that will soon be changed to a Rob Selvy prepped oem cylinder and a taper bored 38mm pj carb and full Bassani exhaust.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/5b7213a3721dc3ab574d61aa440d4cf0.jpg

The stock swingarm will be swapped out for what I think is a -1 JP Racing swingarm.
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/0de54b78b4d7c5b841df61d60eeaa065.jpg

The front oem tire and rear h-tracs will be replaced with front and rear Hoosier Tri Trac's (I don't currently have a pic of the rears)
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/f5480c21b96e342ef076714d0dcf7e19.jpg

I've got a few irons in the fire right now, but I hope to peck away at it a little at a time when I have the chance. I still need to hunt down a set of oem short track shrouds and a finishline or old durablue axle.

Stay tuned!

Any chance you would not mind posting a picture of the Bassani heat shield? I have an R pipe with non-stock heat shield that I wondered if it was just an aftermarket heat shield. The pipe is stock and has HB9 stamped on it.

Thanks man. It looks kinda square because of the "messaging" from the Bassani factory in that area. Both my pipes were dented in the exact same spots to clear various parts of the bike, but what was kinda cool is the dents were never exactly the same size. You can tell each one was wacked a little harder or softer by whom ever was making them that day.

This pipe is actually much smaller than my Paul Turner Hi-Rev that it is replacing.

That explains alot.I thought someone hammered it to fit something it wasnt ment to fit.The silencers are long and look like they are made for a 4 stroke lol.

No, there's a lot of hammer marks on these pipes. I'm thinking once this one is cleaned up, I might sell it and hold out for a hand coned pipe.

This is depressing, the Hoosier is too fat for the 250r and won't fit between the forks. Looks like it would be right at home on a first gen Tecate, but not the R. Looks like the oem front is going back on. I hate changing 250r front tires, what a pain in the asse!

No, this is one I got from 86T3. Looks like a good excuse to buy a first gen Tecate again.

Close your eyes and imagine the year is 1985 and you've won the first heat...

You're due up to the line in 15 minutes where Mickey Dunlop and some hot shot guy named Barnett (famous at the time for being the only racer with a pocket protector sewn into his jersey) that Kawasaki flew in at the last minute are waiting to be spanked, but you blew out a side wall on your front tire when you landed the last triple and the only replacement available is a Hoosier that rubs the forks.

As you desperately search the pits for a suitable replacement you spot a 7" grinder unattended near a power cord that will reach to your forks... What would the forks on a period correct trike from that moment in history look like today? :)

Seriously, does it have a tube in it? If not you might try one. It might push the tire up more than across, at least they do on dirt bike tires VS Tubliss systems.

Not much to report, but I did get around to finally mounting up the rear Hoosiers. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161228/00b95d623c67a56754534f6e4b59d3b5.jpg

I ditched the Bassani and picked up a CT pipe. Next step is restoration of the CT pipe.

I feel like Michael Corleone. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

Now that my house is 90% done, I'll slowly get back into messing with the 250r. This home renovation put me in a dark place toy wise. I didn't want to look at a wheeler, let alone work on one. I have a ton of small things still left to do on it, so now I just like to sit around the garage and play dress up with it since I don't race anymore. Maybe one day I'll throw the paddles on it and make it out west for a dune trip???????

That's the KX that will eventually get the KDX Transmission. I put all new plastic and decals on it, new Gnarly pipe, new take off oem silencer, and a bunch of other little oem hardware things. I have to fix the kicker spring and actually ride it next.

I probably have a better chance planning far in advance for the Invasion in 18 or 19. Little Sahara will always carry the stigma of me getting messed up there 18 years ago and my wife just can't get that out of her brain.

I contacted Allen Knowles and found out this is not a CT pipe like first thought, but rather a Bills sectional. Comfirmed by old school racer and friend/former employee of Bills, Randy Scott, via Facebook. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161231/847a2165ec5861e8e295efaeb29f737f.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161231/6dd9d4ebd52dbf4eb9ee185b05c83cd6.jpg

The pipe has two little dents on the bottom that I'm going to send to yeagerbmotorsports to have removed. I need to make a jig for the swingarm so I can replace the pivot tubes. They're both cracked and need to be cut out and new ones welded in.

So I sent the pictures of this pipe to Rob Selvy a couple of days ago and he says that it is one of his Sonic II pipes. He spotted it right off. What are the chances of finding this pipe on Ebay to match the Selvys cylinder? The seller and I for that matter had no clue and here I just wanted a sectional pipe and ended up with a Sonic II.

I saw that and sent him a message to see if he had any pics to compare it to, but haven't heard back. Honestly I forgot I sent them to Rob, so it was a pretty good start to the New Year for me to get his message today.
