How do they compare to a 83-85. Were they faster?

Chainsaw is right. The parts are very hard to come by. I have seen some on ebay that went for some big $$$$. They are much better then the 83-85's. If i had my choice i would go with the 83-85 200X's due to them being old school racers in there days.

I have owned an 86 200X, and 85 200X, and Am purchasing an 87 200X this weekend. AS far as parts availbility go's. YOU CAN GET PARTS. Alot of the stuff is stil offered through Honda.

AS far as performance, the 83-85 has a manual 5 speed trans, and the 86-87 have 6 speed trans. My 86 and 85 are both great bikes. Very easy to start, and dependable. The 86 was a little bit faster for low end. AS far as top end gos the 86 had alot of an advantage with the 6th gear.

You can look to pay higher prices for the 86-87. Actually I THINK that the newer 200X you get the more cash you will pay. 87 Being by far the rarest one you can find. 1983 would be the easiest to find, and probably the cheapest.

just my 2 cents-

I dont know If they are faster, I am sure the extra cc's in the newer 200x were a help, But I have yet to hear of someone race the 6 and the 5 against each other with same gearing. I would love to see this one because I would not place bets. Parts are available for 86-87 through honda, 83-85 are avialable on ebay for fraction of the price....

Now I do know you can build a 83-85 up more then you can a 86-87.
