Any of you guys ever put a 140cc or 160cc piranha engine in a 110 frame? would i half to do a lot of metal fabrication? I wanna make something exotic

No fabrication. Never done a piranha but the lifan laydown motors are all but identical externally. I have installed several of them into ct110 and ct90 trail bikes. It's a very simple installation, the upper rear engine mount bolt fits directly, and the lower rear engine mount bolt requires a simple bracket that is available from dratv.com.

The most common issue is cylinder head bolt to fender clearance, but I don't think you'll have an issue with the atc110 frame as long as its not bent.

Not exactly an exotic swap, but really transforms these small framed bikes. Some swaps also require atc70 style footpeg bracket. Nothing major.

the ct110s have the exact motor layout/bolts up the same as a 110 atc right?
i might be doing this soon, you think a lifan 150cc or 140 in a 110 with just the bracket?

Yes sir. Even the lifan 125 packs a significantly larger punch than the stock 110 engine due to higher compression ratios.

also what lifan engine would you throw in a 200m frame? i have one kicking around and i was thinking about doing something with it, them 200cc lifans decent? even a bigger size if it fits

This tao tao (rebadged lifan) engine is a 229cc with electric start and reverse. It wasn't quite a bolt in for my Wicked-X but considering the brake pedal configuration on the hardtails, I think it would be even easier. Manual clutch of course, so you'd need a clutch lever and cable. Large enough to propel this trike to speeds of up to 70mph. My gearing was very steep at 14/35. Watch for used china quads on craigslist. My engine cost around $75 after all was said and done. I've also done a few 200cc lifan swaps, they are really good engines and all of them will perform as well or better than any stock 200 series honda engine.

The bike above took me over 1200 miles on the highway in 5 days with no mechanical failure whatsoever. I did not ride conservatively. The last 400 miles or so was basically covered at wide open throttle. Stacked another 800 miles on it before selling it. Cant count how many times i dumped the clutch at wide open throttle through 2nd and laid 20-30ft black marks on dry pavement with the rear tires. So ya, they're good engines.

The engine was aquired by purchasing a non running 2011 tao tao quad. 99.99% of non running chinese quads have electrical issues. IIRC this one had a broken coil wire when i got it. Very common.

so what coil did you run on it oem?

Actually no I used a coil from a different lifan. .8 ohm coil if i remember right. Its not the coils that go bad just literally the wiring breaks, not on all. The china CDI's can be temperamental as well, I've had great results with the lihua cdi's though. Avoid any ebay "racing" cdi's. They're junk. Most often the coils and cdi's that come with the engines are good quality. Buy a used quad, it has everything on it.

They sell them both ways, but if you get the engine alone youll simply end up buying the rest individually and losing money.

Also keep an eye out for china dirt bikes, anything 200cc or above will work. Feel free to pm me with any inquiries, but have the model number handy.

piranha is a great motor with lots of power. will defiantly not let you down. it is manual shifting and does have a kicker, so those are things you will have to be aware of. the kicker could cause your heal to hit the fenders when starting, and the clutch is no biggie.

I say go for it! I have a Piranha 150cc engine (Honda style head) in my US90 which for practical purposes is about the same as a 110 weight wise. It's in a Sprint tube chassis but still similar. It did take a custom front head mount made of aluminum to replace the Piranha head plate but nothing fancy.

The 150cc has crazy low end power that will easily lift the front wheel in 3 gears anytime you poke the throttle. It is a blast to ride on the sand dunes with plenty of power to spare. :cool: It is close to double the hp in a stock 110cc it feels like and changes the whole feel of a small trike.

Been super reliable and easy to tune with the Mikuni VM26 carb. With the big tires and light weight it's my favorite trike to play in the snow or on our frozen lake in the winter.
