My vote is.....unI. The K&N's are fine, you are supposed to keep them oiled better than I do to ensure dust gets trapped . With that said, both need more attention than they get from me, lol. Running an air box with either is ideal and part of the overall design and getting clean dry air from through the frame helps 100%. Stock is usually smart, so maybe foam is better.K&N gives you some more power as you may need to rejet, they say to use their oil on them too. The K&N oil sprays in a stream and not a mist so I feel like it is a waste of oil using their brand name oil. Usually have to set it aside to drip dry. Maybe any lubricating oil would work though.

If you like your engine use a well oiled uni.

i use both Depending ont he track and dirt type. uni (foam style) for sandy or dry tracks, K&N for wet tracks with clumpy dirt. i do use the outerwear filter on the K&n units.

P.s. if anyone says this us a stupid post and a waste of 3ww. I mostly made this thread more for discussion. Not really asking which to use...

I ran a K&N for a while, with an outers over it and ended up with dirt in my engine. So for me its a UNI from now on.

Uni with waterproof prefilter, k&n let's through too much dust.

K&N only without an outerwear. Outerwear pre-filter seems too restrictive, and defeats the purpose of running a K&N in my opinion.

I like my UNI filter on my 85 200x but it is not held on by a bracket and when you tighten the hose clamp to secure it, it will sometimes pop off. Need to order an air box ring to reinforce the connection point. The UNI filter is also easier for me to clean than the stock filter.

I run K&N on my 200x with a 108 main jet and DG RCM. The thing pulls!!
My 350x has a UNI with the stock exhaust and jetting.

Nope, you need one of my 25$ 6061 billet aluminum rings that fit it your airbox and allow to to tighten your air filter clamp as tight as you want.

It's funny to watch them slide off when you tighten down on your airbox fittings  The box plastic just tapers over time and use.

I would like to buy one of those from you. Let me know the payment details and I'll definitely order one.

I didnt like the filterskins over the foam uni either on an RM 250. It was a total loss of snappyness with it on there. Very thin yet restrictive. Filter stayed pretty though.

Hanes is my favorite.

I've bought 3 trikes over the years that had socks over the cages! All were in dire need of a rebuild. Can't recommend socks.

Uni, or stock air filter for me, I've never liked the maintenance of a K&N but if it was strictly a racer i would use one just to keep the gravel out of the motor.

I run uni on my trikes and sand rail. I trust them 100% to filter. I used to run K&N, but they really don't filter good. If you drive a pickup with one down white rock roads you really notice. I got my k&n filters to quit leaking by using PJ filter oil I get at a Honda shop. But I've since moved back to stock or uni, things are too expensive to ruin them with a finicky filter.

I have run an aem dry flow filter made by K&N on a ford pickup and I'd say it's a great filter. Saved me a ton of money on filters too. But it takes forever to dry when you wash it. I have no idea if it has any performance gain.

I does`nt look long enough ........do you have to buy 2 ? ......or is it 2-$25 ???

I think the other one goes on the inside of the box.

AMEN. I have run K&N and UNI and from my experience UNI does twice the job. Even when K&N had the pre-filter on I still had particulates in the snorkel. UNI FTMFW
