Good evening,

I just spent all day rebuilding my front forks, front master cylinder and front brake caliper.

The forks seem to be photo worthy. The other 2 are giving me fits though.

First thing i noticed is my master cylinder seems to be lightly drooling out the piston.....

I just put in a new Moose rebuild kit. I angled the seals the exact same way you do on the 250R.....

Next...

When i pump and bleed the brakes the entire caliper moves and flexes. I am stumped.

Also there seems to be a light constant grab on the brakes as i rotate the front tire.

I cleaned everything up as best i could. I believe i have installed everything correctly.

I put in all new Honda OEM seals, boots, pins, pads and special brake grease etc.

Any thoughts, inputs or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

F

Got my front brakes done today. I bought a mityvac brake bleed kit. It worked out well.

I've had good luck reverse bleeding from the caliper to the master with a marinade injector. Another score for kitchen supplies.

Interesting thought on reverse bleeding.

I have heard a bit about bleeding the brakes from the master cylinder "banjo bolt". Not sure exactly how that works as i have only used the mityvac.

I figured out the master cylinder problem. This was actually my fault. I forgot to add the seal when installing the cap....

The brakes still feel a bit spongy compared to my 250R and 350X but they work fine i suppose. It may be a 200x thing?

It is really weird that the brake caliper moves so much when i apply the brake! Unfortunately my biggest hang up is still the light drag on the brake after releasing it. This is bumming me out. Those calipers float around so good that the whole freakin assembly moves when braking action is applied. Maybe i put to much grease in the things and they float to good? HA!

Unfortunately the back brake is frozen too. I had to remove it for the riding trip this weekend. I will toss it away and just get a brand new one from Ebay.

Is your brake disc wopped?

I am assuming you mean warped?

Could be i suppose. Though i it has a 250R disc on it now. It did the exact same thing after i swapped out the 200x disc. Maybe they are both warped?

Now i am thinking i may have not installed the ship in the caliper correctly or something. Though it seems that would be hard to screw up.

My wife rode the thing yesterday and will ride it again today a the dunes.

Hopefully the problem fixed itself. I will find out tonight after i unload it from the trailer and jack the thing up.

You may have ripped the seat seals when putting the piston back in. I always WD40 everything up so it slips in easy.

I am assuming you mean warped?Yes. Is it bent, tweaked, or askew? There will always be a very slight hint of drag with disc brakes, as the pistons don't retract away from the disc after braking pressure is released. The hint of drag will be exacerbated though if your disc is warped or not of uniform thickness. It could also be an issue with the disc mounting points not being flat.

just so you know, it is normal for the caliper to "flex" as it sits on a bracket that bolts to the fork/swinger. this allows it to stay centered over the disc.
some slight dragging is common when it is not properly centered, or you did not grease the flex pins. (the caliper has 2 long pin shafts with threads and boots that connect to the pins to seal them. there should be plenty of axle grease in this to ensure it can slide smoothly back and forth. this helps with that drag. the drag is when 1 side is more touching than the other. also if your bracket is slightly bent up (not uncommon) it will cause the brakes to drag an a weird angle and also drag more. check the old pads, if they are not perfectly worn top to bottom left to right, then you have a bend someplace.
