AK47KID - keep asking questions, it's the only way to learn.

you'll get there. the lever needs to be far enough out that when you tien the cable nut, it will let you adjust how much the brakes grab when you tug the lever. same for rear.

I've never seen a bash post on this forum until now. I'm disappointed, seriously disappointed.

Okay think my cables are shot, I've ordered new cables and new brakes. Just waiting on those. When I got the BR the cables weren't on the drums. When I get the cables and brakes I'll tell you how it goes.

pull the brake cam levers out and use light grit sand paper to clean them. clean the holes and use some very thin axle grease to coat the cam and install it again. this will ensure it operates smoothly before you attack the lever and cable. (cam is the part with the teeth)

How do I take both out? My front cam will move with just my fingers so it's fine (if I'm wrong about this correct me) and my rear cam is stuck and won't move. How do I take it out?

Sounds like you need to disassemble the rear and inspect.

Measure the drum inside on the front.should be smaller than 4.4". Rear drum should be less than 5.6". If your drums are less then you need to find good drums.

Oh and get a service manual to follow. All these little questions about how to disassemble can be found in the book. It's a free download.

I've been looking online and I'm wondering if my drum is for a 1983 200s/m?

I'm confused. First what year is your 200es? 2nd, describe in detail what the problem is you are having with the brakes. I'm not following what exactly the problem is.

It's an 84, that a trick question? Look at my front hub then look at Eric's. They look different. I have no brake response. I even tightened it up all the way, the only way I get response is if I wrap the front brake cable around the fork. As for the rear... I got the new brakes in it and when I try the resistance from the foot brake the return spring snapped so now I have to find a new one. I'm going to try the rear hand brake tomorrow and fiddle with it some more.

Looked in my 84 owners manual and that drum looks pretty close . I'll try to get back to you in the morning after checking my 84 out. But for sure that front brake arm is on "backwards". Take it off and have the cotter pin side facing the rim. The adjusting nut on the brake arm should be almost maxed out (tightened) before adjusting the upper brake lever. You should also have a large washer between the arm and cotter pin and one on the other side also. After installing the arm properly and adding the two washers make sure the thingy the brake cable goes thru is not so tight that it won't pivot. Might have to spread it a tad and keep it lubed. ( curious what those two bolt holes on the welded gusset were for) ........oh, and by the way most sites like this would be downright boring without questions.

I'm not sure what your front hub is off of exactly. It's not the correct one for sure though!

yeah, looking at pictures, yeah, it looks like a 1983 200E front hub on 1984 200es front forks. This is not good because the lower shock section is different between the 1984 and 1983 apparently There is no bracket for the cable to rest on.

here are a couple options....you have 3 actually.

Option 1:See this picture....you could make something like the bracket that is on the 1983 atc200E and weld it onto the forks. this would work. It'd be the cheapest way.....but you have to be able to weld and have a welder.

Option 2 buy these for $35 off e-bay (Link below)and swap out he cable side so you would get the little bracket like in option 1. These are off of the matching forks from a 1983 200e

Option 3, like mentioned above, buy the correct hub assembly...but turn around and sell yours. down side is, i'm not sure ythe shoes are the same so if you just bought shoes, you'd maybe need to buy more.

I'll think of something. I'm going to go branding this weekend so what I have is going to have to work temporarily. I'll see if my uncle has something like that and I'll have him weld it on

The exploded views in the manual and in microfiches is exactly how the parts go together.

I may still have the 84 200ES hub from the machine I'm working on.I'll look over the next couple of days

Your parting it out?

Not parting it out, I swapped the front end out for a 200M front end because the 200ES front end sucks, and the one on this customers machine was trashed. Lamest suspension I've seen, particularly when Honda had the standard design front suspension that works great.

Finally located that 200ES front hub. Axle is locked into the hub. I'll see if I can free it up sometime this week. Tried several times already, but gave up. I have a couple more ideas to try. Lots of irons in the fire right now.
