200es drum brake turning?

I'm fairly new to the ATV scene and have never done ATV brakes, plenty of car and truck drums, drum disc conversions and so forth in my past . It doesn't look like rocket surgery or anything on how to service them, hardest part was getting the front axle out. Haven't put it back together yet and the drum is within service range according to the manual. I hit it with a quick 220 sand paper to clean up the glazing, cleaned the drum up and it looks pretty good....new water grooved shoes and cables.

My question is is it normal to turn the drums on ATV or do you think I'm good?

my local autoparts store was able to do mine for drum turning.
I typically only turn the drums if there is a reason, E.I. pitting, scoring, groves, and such. if not, what you did should be fine.

90 grit garnet paper works good for me to put a new surface for the shoes to grab.

Id pull the cam out and polish it up with some fine sandpaper and grease it lightly while you have it apart, to prevent sticky/slow brake return. In my {limited} experience, they usually have some scoring going on and it only takes a few more minutes to get it looking new again.

^ true, i did forget to mention that. i also do a thin grease layer on the cam before reinstall. use new felt seals for it too (or make some from other felt)

Great Idea! I'll clean and lube up the pivot arm as well! I have it back together but its coming back apart pretty soon for a different set of forks anyway.

The inside of the drum is turned on a lathe to cut a new smooth surface for the best braking performance. It seems to be a fading service with cheap chinese rotors and drums.

New brakes are all done. Water grooved shoes, new cables and all cleaned up. Much better! I didn't turn them, they didn't really need it. 230534
