3 wheeler Utah Mountain Desert Pics

Took the Honda ATC's out for a shake down ride in the Utah mountain desert. This place is similar to Moab but better IMO, much less crowded, and you can camp wherever you want, unlike Moab. I had never ridden 3 wheelers in this type of terrain before so I wasn't sure how they would do, but they were awesome. It was awesome just riding slow and checking out the scenery. These make great camping/exploration rigs. Can't wait to go back again.

Very cool!!! I used to camp in a very remote area north of Mexican Hat. We would be there for 4 or 5 days at a time and never see another human being. Those pictures remind me of that area. Awesome!

This area is Called the San Rafael Swell, it's west of Moab maybe 60-100 miles. There are still restrictions on cross country motorized travel and you have to stay on existing trails and you're expected to tread lightly, but there are a lot of trails and washes to explore without the crowds. Moab has a lot better extreme 4x4 trails, whereas this place is less about getting crazy and tearing up your rig and more about exploring and enjoying the awesome scenery. Pictures don't even begin to do it justice.

As much as I love Moab, and all the other National Parks like Zions and Bryce, it get frustrated in those places that there are so many people, and free camping is difficult to find there. Down by the Arizona/Utah border St. George has some awesome places too I plan hopefully explore soon. Coral Pink Sand Dunes is also on my list.

Absolutely gorgeous.

I just road tripped from SoCal to Colorado and drove through that section of Utah to get there. On the way back home we went down the 89 to Zion and Coral Pink. I was really bummed because we drove through the area you're in at night both ways and didnt get to see or explore any of it.

we're going to try for another trip back through there this summer with the trikes. I cant go to Coral Pink again without riding!!

I have seen southern Utah...through the windshield of an 18 wheeler. It is THE most beautiful country I have ever been so lucky to have laid eyes upon! I just wanted to park the truck and start walking out into the wilderness.. I would love to someday live out that way.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome living only an hour and a half away from such amazing terrain. I've been in Utah since 2000 and until the last couple years never really made it out of the city to go explore the wilderness. Life is short and fly's by. My mentality has changed now to where I don't care about living the rat race, or working all the time, always being busy and on the go. I've gotten rid of most of the clutter and excess in my life that stops me from getting out and doing the things I really want. It's amazing how much material things can accumulate and bog one down and it's very liberating getting rid of things that you don't really need or use. I'm much happier making less money and having less stuff, but having way more time to get out. If you don't make things happen, it'll never happen. I've found the best way to make sure I get out is to set hard dates to go on trips and not let anything get in the way. You just got to do it!

There is water in that one year round. Look for a bunch of scrub oak and that is where we would camp. Petroglyphs all over the place. Johns Canyon road is a dirt road in ill repair so be prepared. It's worth the effort.

Haha thats awesome! Small world! Youre actually the 2nd or 3rd person on here that ive talked to thats from lakeland. I actually went to Bartow Hs though. I moved to the lakeland highlands area in 1998 from N.j. BHS class of '02

Cool, I used to spend a lot of time up in the Highlands area and went to Bartow every now and again. As much as I loved living in FL, I couldn't resist the call of the mountains and desert out west. FL is a great place to live though.

Ehhh thats debatable lol... Its ok, and this is where my family and my wifes family is, so i guess we gotta stick around for a while. At almost 32 years old, im still somewhat of a mommas boy. Dont wanna go to far from her as shes getting up there in age ya know.
