Was plotting out a fl250 swap for my GF's quad.. unfortunately since the pull start was missing, and the price tag of said arm jerker was out of control, that has been abandoned. however what caught my eye was the fact that fl350s are electric start. so this got me thinking, since there are a lot of parts that at least fit from all the air cooled 2 stroke Honda's, maybe I can graft a fl350 ring gear to my 81's flywheel, or use an fl350 flywheel and ring gear. since the stock fl350 starter lives where my transmission is, using it in stock location wouldn't work. my thought would be to put it above the balance shaft on the exhaust side. i realize this would require a custom flywheel cover, but i know enough tig welders, So i think this could be accomplished. the whole reason of adapting a stock setup is it works, and parts are cheap enough. and the reason I don't want to run a goki is because they discontinued this particular kit due to the fact that it would strip ring gear teeth. now does anyone know if a fl350 crank snout and a air cooled 250r crank snout are the same diameters? and same with the fl350 flywheel, anyone know if they are close or the same diameters? if it meant running a fl350 stator to run the flywheel I would, as it would also net me a battery charge circuit. as for the battery, my thought was to use a NiMh jumper pack, as they are small, light, and it would also give me the 5v charge port I'm looking for to charge a smart phone with gps. so oh wise fabricators.. could it be done?

been poking around the interweb all day for ideas.. another idea that i had, say I used a 1 way clutch and ring gear from a 250-300-400 sx ex es etc, etc machine the R flywheel to accept the 1 way clutch. then adapt the starter gear reduction case with the starter above the balance shaft, I would like to see if I can accomplish this without splitting the cases.. high hopes lol...
