My 85 200x is in near perfect shape. Looks super great. Almost everything is in working order. Except one thing, my kick starter gear is not that great. The springs are good but it does not catch real well. If you kick it over its only like half a kick so it makes it hard to start.

It is worse when engine is cold but after warm it works fine.
How hard is it to rebuild kick starter gear ? I have the parts just not the knowledge, do the cases have to be split ?

Yes the center cases need to be split to do the job . Not a simple job !

I think I have a spare washer spacer set. You need to remove the gears send them out to be back cut. YeagerB on here did a set for me and the work was great. You reinstall them and the washer and that will help everything. It's the best fix you have over the non existent kicker upgrade kits that were sold years ago. It will work. I had a high compression motor that was harder to kick over then my YZ426F and it never slipped.

I got 3 of those kits for an 1983 for like 50$ a kit and sold them off.

I THINK:

1 year needed a different spring, 1 year another gear also and 1 other year 200X kit needing the works!
