I just found out lately that the 185/200 engines and the 83-85 200x wire harness is not a direct plug and play swap. Since I make wire harnesses and such, is there any interest in an adapter kit to make it plug and play?

I researched out the atc185/s and atc200/s engines and I could make an inline adapter for all years to the 83-85 200x factory wire harness. I'm sure the other options (200M, and 200E) are very similar though not counting the starter and battery ciruits.

Some possible perks (confirm if you can) about using the 200x harness over the 185/200 harness:

everything fits perfect, since it is made for that frame/machine/handlbar swithes etc
the 200X CDI might have a slightly more aggressive timing curve, so using the 200x top end (or aftermarket cams) on the 185/200 bottom should give better performance over the stock 185/200 CDI
you most likely already have the harness from the donator 200x, with the adapter there would be no chopping or splicing and you could always use another 200x harness if you needed to replace it to make life easier down the road.

All of the wire will be wire harness color matched, GXL wire spec, and high quality connectors with the B crimp style which is the same as factory.

I'd love to help. PM sent. Just so everyone else knows, I'm currently working on an auto x. My questions helped to start this research. Pics and story to come later.

Another thing I noticed is the 185/200/s engines only put out 50w while the 200x engine puts out 70w. Since the lights are the "regulator" on both machines, the 200x light with the 185/200s engine will be dimmer than normal.

This could be fixed with a 45w/45w H4 light bulb, Honda part number 34901-MS2-672 (http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-34901-MS2-672.html) should be a perfect match which is for the TRX400FW 1995-1998 (and fits several other machines).

Another option is to use a 45w/25w H4 LED with a regulator.

EDIT:

Updated first post with photos of the adapters I made. Kind of forgot I had a 185s engine and a atc200x to base the lengths on :). Adapter is 4 inches long and should be plenty long enough to make the connections.

It should be quite easy to make these support an inline regulator too (2 wire like the 350x and 250r's used).
