What was the difference between the 185 engine and the 200s? Were the stator and all the electrics basically the same? I thought the only difference was the top end but not sure

Piston and cylinder I believe are the only difference. Electrical is all the same.

I think it depends slightly on year too, wire harnesses year per year are the same for 185/200, but every year the part number changed. Generally like machines can swap stators, you just need the matching flywheel to go with it. This is the same story for a 85 vs 86 350x, stators are different part numbers but can be swapped between engines with the correct flywheel.

ps2 is correct and so is gearhead.
you can put a 200cc cylinder and piston on a 185s no problem.

The CDI plug can be different on the harness, that sort of falls under electrics.

Even though the CDI plug changed, the CDI's are more or less the same. You just have to use the correct cdi for the harness you use as long as it is on the same type of machine, like 185/200 vs 250r would cause problems because the cdi advance curves are majorly different.

Thanks for the replies great to know. I only have one 185 but I have three 200s' From what I found your all correct. Most all of the parts are the same.
