Hey Everyone,

I'm excited to finally be able to share the progress with my 110 build. It's certainly going to be different than any other 110!
We spend our weekends at the local roadracing track, so my goal was to create the coolest pit bike that we could. It's a 110 with some superbike styling, some drift car styling. Lower. Shorter. Generally badass.
There's still a ton of work to do, but I will try to update with progress as often as possible!

First: A proper street tire/wheel package as this thing is going to spend most of it's time in a paved racetrack paddock.

Fresh OEM piston. Seems like they're getting hard to find!

I purchased a small metal lathe pretty much entirely for this build. I spun up this clutch cover guard to make the right side of the engine a bit more interesting...

Blank bits that I made the oil cooler fittings from:

Finished oil cooler fittings:

Fittings in the oil cooler. I picked the cooler up for a couple bucks on eBay. I can't imagine it'll ever get hot enough to need an oil cooler but they look so sweet I couldn't help myself!

Next up is the top triple clamp. The stock one is big & ugly, and I'm planning on running a motorcycle style clip-on handlebar, so it's got to go. I also need a way to mount the awesome OEM ATC speedometer that I found on another project!
When you don't have a mill, you must find a way!
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/1ce7c9a482240aeebc2f8e134a8599f2.jpg

Finished top with the lowered mount for the speedometer.

I added some false fork tops as I like the way they add to the look of the clamp. They still need some work, but it's a start!

Brakes! Let's get serious.
How much brake do you need in a 1980 ATC110?

I decided to make a disc brake conversion for the rear, using this brembo rotor sourced from a Ducati 900SS. I cut the stock brake drum apart & welded some tabs on to locate the rotor:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/31935abe1ecc269fc77c5049a79c7492.jpg

Making sure where to drill the holes:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/f301e7efa69dd55b0230a1c64adedb66.jpg

Now the complicated part. For the front brakes, I've sourced two radial mount Tokico calipers from a Honda CBR600RR. I think I can fit both of them in the rims around the rotors from a Yamaha Raptor:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/f3193afd6c1a5a4f9c40516c57fd12d5.jpg

Need to make some carriers to mount the rotors!
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/1b7407d96984098e055596edfbfa8bad.jpg

Test fitting everything on the front axle. I've had to completely design a front axle & fork system to make this work. By far the most time spent on the whole build is in the front end.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/d7e304b6d8aca9e9cbd33390a88e909f.jpg

Billet fork bottoms are way cooler than the stock fork. I cut several inches out of the fork anyway, so it's gotta be done! What a headache. I had to spin up the inserts in them so I could remove the axle easier. Seems like the best setup I could come up with.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/18/b75ae03fea3c76c51f7d94457b96bd7e.jpg

As the rear part of the frame has been cut out, it was easiest to spin up a new carrier that I could weld into the frame. The axle is now mounted about 5 inches shorter than stock & 4 inches lower. It needs to be low!

A quick shot of the rear to show you what the aim is:

Had this stock Ducati 996 steering damper laying around. I think it looks good, no?

It's starting to come together! I can't get over the look of this crazy thing.

Nearly finished front hub & fork assembly. Caliper mounts next time!

Since it's going to be mainly on the streets have you thought about ditching the live axle and go with something like on the KLT's? Would improve handling a lot.

That's not a terrible idea. We'll see how bad this one actually turns when it's rolling. I originally had plans to cut some CV axles up & build solid A-arms for the rear so I could run some camber, but put that away for the time being. Would be a heck of a lot of fab work & as it is now it's been about 3 years since disassembly. I pick away at it in the winter time when it's cold as F*&^ outside...

great work, ive owned a street legal 200x and can say ghostys idea with the klt axle is a great one.
mine handled terrible on the street with a live axle, after my experience id recommend a diff too!

Here's a quick update!

The forks are pretty much complete now. Front caliper mounts on both sides are done & painted the whole thing blaaaaaaack. Looks super trick. I've made up some mounts for a set of KTM footpegs & am playing with where to mount the oil cooler. Carb is also routed out the right hand side of the tank... because who says it needs to make any sense? It's cool. I'm going to spin up a velocity stack for it. Lots of things to look at, no matter where you're looking at. I love the way it's coming together!

More detailed shots please.

Not right away. You work fast and I don't want to interrupt your flow! Good to see a quick build around here especially with so much machining and fab work involved.

Needs to be moved to Top Tier build or whatever we are calling it now.

No plans to street legalize it here in NS. Just going to make a sweet pit-assault vehicle!

Thanks for all the ideas guys! I'm pretty excited that it's getting closer to rolling around.
I was picking away at a couple of things last night & got a couple more photos:

Front fork with the brake caliper mounts. They're pretty solid & I don't think we'll have a problem. We'll see what happens!
226904

I finally got some pads & made up a pin for the rear caliper. I think it'll do the trick.
226905

One more - Planning these sweet carbon silencers from a Yamaha TZ250 race bike for the exhaust. Crazy enough?
