200es for log skidding/hauling

Hey, anyone use their 200es or 250es big red for log skidding/hauling? How well does it perform in wet kinda swampy land? Of course it depends on the tires so what tread should I get? I have knobbie tread tires, how do they work for muddy land while hauling logs? I'm thinking of finding work that includes cutting and hauling small - medium sized trees as a part time job.

They dont drag very well. You should look into a log rite skidding arch. It lifts the weight of the log off of the ground. Even with a small trailer with 1/4 rick of wood on it my 250es is hard to steer when the ground is slick.

I use both a 200es and a 250es to haul wood , drag trees . I like the 200 because of the low range . Both do well , but I'm not trying to make time or money doing it .

I agree with Hoosier on this one. I pull a 4x8 trailer behind my 250es. I can haul about half a truck load of split and stacked wood in it but the bike don't like it if there is much of a hill. I move the wood forward or backward depending if I'm spinning or can't steer. If it's muddy I'm basically hosed even with Bear Claws. They will only do so much being 2wd.

Low range does nothing for your steering.

the sportsman is going to "work" better if your trying to make money.
the 84e has reverse at least.
my alt 125/185 have same problems hauling as listed above but also run out of power up a hill if I have a big load

you need a suzuki lt 250 4x4 or 300 4x4 very strong made for work with very low gears and diff lock and can be bought fairly cheap. theirs no other atv out there with gearing like it at all

If you put acouple hundred extra pounds on the front you might be able to pull another 4 feet of log.....

I use mine a lot but the ground is usually dry or crusty snow covered and I pull down hill or on the flat ...

Putting a chain on just won't help. It's a combination of weight on the back/no weight on the front/going uphill around a curve and you are @@@ked. That said, I do haul small loads with a wood pallet on a short chain....but I'm just a broke gold miner with few resources...HA!

I keep dreaming about a trike built just for pullin.. I would extend the frame some on a chain drive hardtail like a 200E or 200M. No suspension to unload and a low CG. Swap in a bigger engine with reverse.. 300ex maybe.? Or whatever that would fit?

Several reasons..

Easy to extend... Easy to change ratios... Easy to repair. And mostly because I don't know how much abuse the shaft drive can handle with added power and extreme use, or how to even go about adapting them to a different engine.
