I recently picked this bike up cheap and I've been trying to figure out if this is an aftermarket swingarm or quality home built piece. 225489225490225491

I haven't seen anything like that. It looks homemade but well built.

there is some plate steel welded on the bottom of the swinger but that was not original to the arm. i measured from pivot bolt to middle of axle 24 1/2 inches so i'm guessing a plus 6 swinger. i would love to find out if this is a period correct after market piece.

None of it aluminum ?
84/85 swingarm was steel, 86/87 are alu but you most likely know that ,,,

its all steel and correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the 84/85 swingarms have a slightly different mount setup(bolt pattern) for the axle carrier225493

This is only a guess, but it looks like a Trinity Racing?

If memory serves me correct I used the stock 84/85 carrier on my first gen T-3 with a extended 86/87 swing arm.
I know for sure I used the stock axle.
86/87 T-3 has 2 chain adjusters both side of carrier, like your shows. 86/87 shock linkage sets off to one side unlike the 84/85 shock mount that sits in center.
Factory or a hand made one off, that is a fine looking piece !

I believe 3WheelDrive is correct, looks like a Laeger's , especially in a +6". Nice find even if they aren't quite as impressively constructed as the Cal-Fab's or West coast. Its hard to tell on the axle. Some of the durablue axles used the stock locknuts, and I can't tell if it tapers at the ends.

It's a Durablue axle. Get some better pictures of that pipe, mainly the stinger and top mount please. The swingarm looks like one I had, we figured it was a durablue of laegers. Whatever it is I don't think they are very strong because mine was destroyed and then reinforced also.
