How hard is it to find parts for the 86 KLT 185? I have one that has been painted and would love to find plastics and a gas tank. Is there any other plastics from other models or possibly four wheelers that will fit? It's looking like it may be an impossible find, but still want to check.

no new ones available, used turn up on ebay time to time or you can repair your existiing ones w plastic weld and bondo and paint w plastibond paint.
the easiest route is to buy some new maier black 200x plastics and just cut and drill to fit
i bought a new gas tank from kawasaki parts online was only a little over 100$
i had a klt 185, awesome trike, lots of power!! just lowww top speed and no rear suspension....

Very hard to find, particularly the parts you need. Best bet is to try working with what you have, certainly not the bike to have if you want easy access to parts. You can probably find a gas tank since any KLT 110 or 160 tank will work but the correct rear plastics only came on one other bike (1986 KLT 110), been a while since I've seen ANY rear plastics for sale. You can probably find most of the other parts you might need though. Have any specific questions just ask.

Gas tank is easy if you find a solid one....if you can. There are front fenders and headlight shrouds that come up on eBay now and then
that are new, but rear plastic are NLA like the other guys said.
I have a KLT160 and was going to try to polish mine, but they were so faded I decided to Hydro dip them at TARJAC since they were solid. Turned out
pretty nice. The Tank was powder coated and the Camo ink was infused in the clear coat. The underside of the plastics were sprayed black at
TARJAC.

Got lucky today and picked up a bunch of parts. Got the rear fenders, headlight shroud, engine, rearend, forks, and misc. parts. Had to drive 3 hours to get them but I think it was worth it.

I assume you picked up the parts in Cincinnati. If so that ad was posted for quite a while, glad someone finally grabbed that stuff.

Yea that's exactly where it came from. It was a long drive but got some good parts at a good price.
