I have used helicoils on cars but i don't see why i wont work on your trike.

I also had that problem with my tecate, I installed a helicoil.. Bad news is, probably no matter what you do (helicoil or tap it to bigger size) chips are going to get in the tranny.... I did mine when I had the cases split....

Never tryed it but just a thought...You could drill a hole about halfway through it, put a bolt in the hole and weld the bolt on there and use the head on it to take that one out and replace it.

I also stripped the oil drain plug out on my Foreman this past summer. It really sux. But, we got the next size bigger self-tapping bolt and I hope to put that in it tomorrow depending on the weather (cold and snow/sleet)
Biggest thing I'm concerned about is metal shavings in the engine....I will probably pour a quart of cheep oil through it to try and flush the bigger stuff out before fillin it up....

i would split the cases and put a helicoil in it , i had to do it on my 85 . if you dont split the cases that rebuilt engine might be wasted!!!!
take the extra time do it right , it stinks but i bet you will have a more reliable engine .all it takes is one small metal filing and its back to the garage and digging into the wallet.

Ohhh. Well my answer was pretty dumb. I thought you meant it was rounded off.
i guess the previous owner of my 250sx had the same problem. they got an oil plug that i have seen on toyotas that is a rubber plug and it is pushed in with a screw driver. it kind of looks like a nipple. works on mine and doesn't leak

It dependson what size bolt was in there to begin with. My BIGRED had a stripped oil bolt I replaced it with one from a LT250R, honda was 12mm (i think) and the Suzuki was 14mm. Drill it out and tap it and you will be ready to go! Mine is holding up great.

if you don't want to split the case which i'm SURE you don't try one of those rubber freeze plugs for a car they tighten up pretty good and ya just might be able to find one that size.

at first i wasnt sure if he meant the threads were stripped or the bolt head. I see you guys answered for both though :)
I rounded off my blaster drain plug a day before my first race, I ended up grinding a flat surface on the bolt, drilled about 1/2 to 5/8" through the bolt and removed it w/ an EZ out.
