I have a Yamaha 200E. Is there a way to test the stator and/or coil? I get a weak, intermittent or no spark at all. The motor will not start.

Any ideas??

Thanks,
Sherm

I know there is a way to test the coil, but I don't know how. To me it sounds like your coil has gone out though.

Check all your wires (especially the kill switch) and make sure they're not grounding out on something. My 110 had the same problem and it was the kill switch wire grounding to the frame, but it could also be the coil.

I had a 110 that my cousin would always ride. Well, i could never figure it out, why it would die and start randomly, but when pullstarting it, he pulled the stator wires out, and pushed em in. I was pissed, cause he never told me, and i tore the trike down to find the problem. Hey, btw, sherman, have you tried the ohm test yet?

Thanks for the prompt replies. I have not tried the ohm test, can you please explain procedure. Is there a way to test the coil?
Also, when I pulled the cover off to get at the stator, about half a cup of oil ran out, is this normal. I see the bearing in the cover so I guess it must receive oil somehow.

Thanks,
Sherman

No but really I think Howdy knows, you can PM if you would like to.

Yes, oil in the stator cover is perfectly normal.

Before you get too deep, Id start with a clean plug. Its probably obvious, but since nobody mentioned it, I thought I would.

oh yeah, forgot about a new plug  lol, oops. Yeah, try that first. Also, to do the ohm test, you will need an ohm tester, they can be found at an automotive store. Put it on the ohm setting, and put 1 of the leads on 1 of the wires coming from the stator. and the other on the other. You should get a reading of something. Im not sure which wire is which, i would just follow the wires from the stator to the ones on the terminal that connects to the wiring harness.
