I'm looking for a new shifter for my 81 250R. Unfortunately these seem to be really hard to find. Does anyone know the length differences between the years of 250Rs? Will a later year still work even if it is much shorter?
Thanks for your help!

Shifters are kinda universal. Different lengths and bends but splines are always the same. I had a 350X shifter on a banshee, Banshee one was very long so I just normaly buy EMGO folding ones since I know they are not messed up or bent up for $20 bucks new.
You could use a 200x or a 300ex also. I have many laying around if you let me know what length your after I can measure some.

I'd really like to get a new one, if possible. No offense, and thanks for your offer, but that way I know I'll be the first one to bend it. :)
Would these type work on my 81 then you think?
