I am looking at a 1st gen 250r basket case, it is not complete. Mostly there though. Dg pipe, 34mm carb and other stuff. Whats it worth? Are they reliable? Fast? How hard are they to rebuild?
All help appreciated!

A first gen in decent shape would be worth 700-900$ range IMO.
They're quite simple motors to work on and reliable if they're air tight and jetted correctly. The drawback of the first gen is the lack of suspension travel. They're quick, but lack the top end speed vs the 350x and 3rd gen R.
A pipe, larger carb(34mm-38mm) and high performance reeds will really awaken the power potential vs the stoxk components.

there great trikes!! small and easy to wing around. suspension is kinda short, but good. motor is reliable and puts out good power. beat a 350x repeatedly in drags and climbed steeper dunes. they go for around 5-700$ where im at in good running cond. id leave it bone stock (reliable) and put a better rear shock on it, front aint bad!

fast is a relative term and if it is not fast enough for you, you can modify the engine.

easy to rebuild is a relative term . . the engine is easy to rebuild if you know how to do it . . if you don't, but are patient and mechanically inclined and have done some mechanical work before, you can do it if you follow the service manual.

if you have never done any mechanical work, i would get some help.

its often cheaper to buy one that is in very good condition than it is to build a basket case.

What do you consider fast? If maintained, anything can be reliable. Ease of repairs, what is your skill level? If was worth it, you'd already own it. There is no set value for anything really, something is worth what someone will pay. If the seller wants $500, I'd tell him to keep dreaming while the next guy might now believe the awesome deal that he got.
